Vintageand antique items repurposed, especially antique watches, coins and rhinestones & vintage hardware become art jewelry for today but with an interesting history. My mother was having a 'home party' of some sort. Supposed to stay in my bed asleep, instead I wandered into our dining room where the most beautiful, sparkely things I had even seen were displayed on our table. My Mother showed me
a neckalce that was make for little girls and asked me if I liked it. Not only did I love it, I only hoped and dreamed it could be mine one day. Well the necklace showed up in a package for me one day and I still have it, proudly displayed. It is little pink, blue and yellow flower clusters on a gold filled background and chain. It has no marks on it at all and I really wish I knew the maker. This was the early 1950s and such companies as Sarah Coventry had not started yet. All through my growing up the jewelry pieces I was given or purchased myself have been my very favorite accessories, treasures to keep and appreciate for a lifetime. Couple the love of jewelry with the respect for antiques and high craftsmanship of the past and ZoftigDoll was born. I come from a family of very creative women, talented artist in a number of fields. We have encouraged each other in all of our avenues, from pen and ink, pottery, my mother's magical crochet needle, oil painting and my sister the master of the written word...the writer. It is very satisfing to me to take something, not in use anymore and turn it into a new item to be loved and appreciated, especially if it becomes a piece of jewelry - a one of a kind piece of art. There is a cool new word for this and it is 'recycle'! It is more than that to me because the attention to detail, beauty and the patience artist of the past put into their pieces needs to be recognized and appreciated. A great example of this is all the guilloche designs the watchmakes put on the pocket watch works. This artwork was never seen by anyone but the maker and repair man. I love to use these pieces in lots of my jewelry designs. I hope you enjoy looking through my items and thanks for stopping by! Jan (ZoftigDoll)
