In 2012, a great man passed away – established in 1958 and growing up as an orphan, little did we know this life would play an influential role in the development of Stō•ik. After serving over 22 years in the United States Army and no matter how difficult the mission or events that took place in his personal life, he kept it together for his family. While some would argue that is just detachment f
rom emotion, he was able to control those emotions and keep family calm. This methodology of thinking often incorporates in the military, fraternities, sororities, and in sports to name a few. It tackles fear and resilience and can build camaraderie and bonds that can last a lifetime. Stō•ik principles are based off include intellectual empowerment and uplift. What started out as just project to help others deal with life’s hardships and tough loss blossomed into what you see here today
In the article, “The Rebirth of Stoicism” William O. Stephens states:
“The central idea is to try to do the right thing, in every situation, without losing one’s calm, becoming frustrated or getting angry. ‘Doing the right thing’ includes fulfilling our responsibilities to family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, fellow travelers, fellow citizens and, in general, fellow human beings. Since we all naturally want to be happy, the rational (Stō•ik) way to live is to train ourselves to limit our desires and concerns to what is up to us, and not to worry about, fear or get upset by things that are not up to us. In this respect, Stō•ik is a kind of coping strategy. The central idea is to try to do the right thing, in every situation, without losing one’s calm, becoming frustrated or getting angry. ‘Doing the right thing’ includes fulfilling our responsibilities to family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, fellow travelers, fellow citizens and, in general, fellow human beings. We believe that if we strive every day to do our best, then we accept the rest. That is, we can rightly take satisfaction in the lifelong enterprise of maintaining rational judgments and attempting good actions. Moreover, we can respect ourselves for the moral progress we achieve, and thus enjoy peace of mind and happiness regardless of how events in the world unfold. After all, we are responsible for what we try to achieve, but not for the outcomes of our attempts since those results are subject to chance factors." In summary, Stō•ik is basing upon that mindset of surviving; you must be willing to be selfless, open-minded and put your faith in what you know. To be Stō•ik, you mold yourself -emotionally, mentally and physically- to handle all obstacles and tribulations that may come your way”-H.H.
