Attending the Quarterly Arkansas Tree Farm Committee meeting today at Arkansas Forestry Association/AFA Education Foundation. There's a lot of discussion and learning going on.

Stay tuned to landowner programs and education in the future!

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰 “𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲”?

Is it just a dot on a map… a county line… a place you grew up?

Or is it something more?

In my line of work, I get to see community a little differently. It’s not just geography—it’s relationships. It’s the landowners who trust you, the neighbors who look out for each other, the folks who show up when it matters.

Community can be a shared boundary line… but it’s also shared values, shared goals, and a willingness to take care of something bigger than yourself.

Sometimes it’s a landowner wanting to leave their woods better for the next generation. Sometimes it’s a conversation at a field edge that turns into a long-term partnership.

To me, community isn’t just where you are—it’s what you invest in.

So I’m curious…

Spent some time recently in Chattanooga attending the American Forest Foundation National Leadership Conference.

Like most meetings, it was a mix of perspectives and a reminder that forestry—like anything else—is always evolving. There were some conversations that will require a little problem solving and adaptation moving forward, especially when it comes to programs that support landowners and long-term stewardship.

That said, one of the best parts was getting to catch up with other foresters, land managers, and landowners from across the country. Different regions and different challenges, but a lot of shared purpose in taking care of the land and keeping it productive for the next generation.

Those conversations—and those relationships—are what make these trips worthwhile.

Grateful for the opportunity to represent our area, learn a few things, and bring some of that perspective back home.

Now it’s back to the woods. 🌲

Happy National Ag Day 2026! 🌲

Agriculture isn't just about fields; it’s about the entire landscape—including the forests that protect our watersheds and provide renewable timber products. At Cypress Creek Forestry, we are proud to work alongside farmers and ranchers to ensure healthy, sustainable ecosystems for generations to come.

Together we grow!

What’s in these woods?

While checking on some firebreak construction today, I ran across this little piece of history tucked away in the timber. Just another reminder that when you spend enough time in the woods, you never know what you’re going to find.

Firebreaks might look simple, but they’re an important tool for slowing or stopping wildfires and giving firefighters a place to work if a fire gets out of hand.

Also, I’ll admit I’m copying the idea for this post from Luke Alston, ALC - SmallTown Hunting Properties & Real Estate —he always seems to find something interesting out in the woods.

Figured I’d start sharing a few of the things I run across as well.

It’s Severe Weather Awareness Week. In Polk County, that’s not something we take lightly.

A while back, I created a detailed storm shelter map for to help residents quickly locate the nearest public shelters when minutes matter most. Clear information and good mapping can make a real difference during fast-moving weather events.

Preparedness starts long before the sirens. Know your safe place. Have a plan. Share reliable resources with your family and neighbors.

If your community, organization, or business could benefit from a custom emergency map — or if you have an idea for a map that would serve the public in a meaningful way — let’s talk. Good maps save time. And sometimes, they do a whole lot more than that.

Anybody else have family members or friends who treat trail mix like a sorting activity instead of a snack? 😆

They pick out all the “good stuff” and leave the peanuts… so I finally just bought a whole box of peanuts since that’s what I end up eating anyway.

Snack in hand, waiting on a contractor, and knocking out a few maps while I wait. Forestry life isn’t always chainsaws and timber cruising — sometimes it’s peanuts and property lines. 🌲🗺️
