What’s your Cause?

CharityPuzzles.com has grown out of a hobby of mine – creating crossword puzzles. In our family, doing the daily crossword puzzle became a bit of a morning ritual, passing the puzzle around the breakfast table, looking to complete it “by committee”. Dad would always start the puzzle. Mom would be next, followed by my sister and then me.

During Covid when we became more “shut-in”, I started creating my own crossword puzzles to pass around the breakfast table. It was a great creative outlet for me and the clues I used led to many interesting conversations. The puzzles are “easy” level – more entertaining than challenging – and are nostalgic in theme. Dad has since passed, but mom still looks forward to a crossword puzzle as part of her breakfast.

Emerging from the Covid “shut-in”, I wondered what I could do with all the puzzles I created – of which there are over now over 120 of them. I thought “certainly, I can put them to use somehow.” Coupling that with my history of working with and for non-profits, CharityPuzzles.com was born.

Antioch Traveling Closet Corporation NFP has become an important part of the Antioch community. We are happy to have them as one of our non-profit partners at CharityPuzzles.com.

The ATC is a not-for profit organization, that collects new or very gently used shoes, clothing, winter wear, boots, hats/gloves, books, toiletries and cleaning supplies. They are distributed, free of charge, at the 3 giveaways we hold a year.

We also provide clothing, toiletries and sometimes food to families that become suddenly homeless in the area or on a as needed basis. Area schools will contact the ATC for clothing/winter wear and shoes for students many times throughout the year.

The ATC began with a recruited handful of volunteers that has quickly grown into a widespread community effort supported through area residents and local businesses.
