Winemaking is a process that requires consistent observation/nurturing and especially, patience.
Vintages 2023 & 2024 are resting in our “At home private cellar” that my awesome husband built for me! Our sweet home on the SF Peninsula can get a bit toasty during these summer months, making daily ice pack rotations vital for keeping temps perfect for aging these gorgeous red blends.

Grapes pressed yesterday after extended maceration of 27 days on the skins for our red blend. Grapes were fermented to completed dryness. AMAZING results! Beautiful deep purple in color, aromas of black fruits, earth and “other.” A lot of unknowns at this stage but very excited about the process. Such a beautiful sound hearing the free wine (new wine) pouring off the skins. Magical!
We pressed the skins (must) and pressed and pressed even more using our “Full body weight,”and STILL more new wine poured out from the skins. “Full body weight,” meaning Paul created a simple but effective home scale pressing bucket and we were both manually pressing with all of our strength (imagine Bakasana or Crane pose in yoga.. yeh…that was us… and no… I’m not posting THAT pic 😂

Late night at Vauclair Winery ( currently, a tiny corner of our kitchen)

2023 vintage check in as I prep for 2024 Harvest and fermentation. I cannot deny the tears in my eyes and my full grateful heart, when I sampled our aging 2023 vintage!! It’s my FIRST as a winemaker and I initially thought of it as an experiment. ( Got to start somewhere, right?) 2023 is aging beautifully with notes of black and red fruits on the nose and palate. It’s showing earthiness as well. My heart is so full with the possibilities that will unfold with further aging of this bold red blend. How grateful I am!! SO FUN!

2024 Harvest for Vauclair Wines is later this month. Such an exciting time😍

Vauclair family winery update: These three beauties have been “tucked in and are resting” in Italian glass carboys since late 2023, after primary fermentation and natural malo fermentation. They have been enjoying daily Light energy, high frequency sound healing music AND even richer to me, the vibrations of love, creativity and laughter from celebrations when all of our sweethearts were together at home❤️ This new year is a time of patience and observation without unnecessary intervention. It’s a beautiful process. As a wine educator turned first year winemaker, this sweet pic is just the beginning of something extraordinary!
Thank you for your encouragement.

Q: What is the oldest wine you’ve ever tasted?

Hugh: It was the year 1540 (way before Shakespeare was born)

from Northern Bavaria.

“The experience will stay with me forever because when we poured the wine... for a moment, it was still alive. It had the spirit of wine. It was the energy of the sun pulled into those grapes... from centuries before.. Unbelievable! There’s nothing in the world that can store energy like that.”
