📦 There’s a reason downsizing should happen BEFORE the packing begins.

If everything gets packed without first deciding what actually needs to make the move, you may end up paying to pack it, move it, and unpack it... only to discover there isn’t room for it in the new home.

And then? You still have to make all those decisions.

Downsizing first can mean fewer boxes, lower moving costs, less to unpack, and a new space that feels manageable from the start.

A little extra time making decisions before the move can save a whole lot of time, money, and frustration afterward.

Pack what belongs in your next chapter, not simply everything that fit in the last one. ❤️

Ever heard the word “provenance”? 🔎

It sounds a little fancy, but the idea behind it is pretty simple: provenance is the history of an object.

Where did it come from? Who owned it? How long has it been in the family? Are there photographs, receipts, letters, labels, or other records connected to it?

Those little pieces of information can help tell an object’s story and, depending on the item, may help establish its authenticity, significance, or value.

So before tossing the old paperwork or separating a note or photograph from an item, take a closer look. The story that goes with something may be important too.

You know that moment when you start downsizing and suddenly find things you completely forgot you owned?

The bread maker you definitely had plans for.
The box of VHS tapes.
The ice skates that haven't seen ice in 20 years.
And, of course, the mysterious collection of cords that apparently must be kept forever. 😆

Downsizing has a funny way of turning into a trip down memory lane.

Some things make you wonder, “Why did I keep this?”
Others make you say, “Oh! I forgot all about this!”

And every once in a while, you find something that makes you stop, smile, and remember exactly why you kept it. ❤️

Every house has one. 😂

The junk drawer.

A few batteries that *might* still work.
Three mystery keys.
Six pens, but only one actually writes.
A charger that hasn’t matched a device since 2017.
And at least one thing nobody remembers buying. 😆

Over the years, we’ve had a lot of four-legged “helpers” join us while we work. 🐾❤️

Some supervise from the couch.
Some inspect everything we’re doing.
Some follow us from room to room.
And some make it very clear that whatever we’re working on belongs to **them**. 😂

But they’re more than just adorable faces we meet along the way.

When we help someone through a transition, we’re stepping into their home and their story. And very often, these furry family members are an important part of both.

So today, we thought we’d give a little love to just a few of the dogs and cats who have crossed our path over the years.

They may not have been on the official schedule, but they certainly made the days more memorable. 🐶🐱❤️

Ahhh, the joys of decluttering with your spouse. 😂

**“We haven't used this in 15 years.”**

“But we MIGHT.”

“For what?”

“I DON'T KNOW. That's not the point.” 🤣

The funny thing is, we all have our *things*. The box that's followed us through three moves. The gadget we haven't touched since 2009. The collection we're absolutely certain we're going to do something with… someday.

And then there are the things that actually mean something to us — and those deserve a place in our lives.

Decluttering isn't about getting rid of everything. Sometimes it's just figuring out what deserves the space.

Although convincing your spouse of that may require snacks, patience, and professional mediation. 😂

Those words can make something sound pretty special, can't they?

Here’s the catch: **“limited edition” doesn’t automatically mean valuable.**

25 made? That might get interesting.
25,000 made? Well… that's a slightly different kind of “limited.” 😆

When determining what a collectible may actually be worth, there’s a lot more to consider — how many were produced, condition, maker, rarity, current demand and, most importantly, what buyers are actually willing to pay.

So yes, keep the certificate. Keep the original box. Keep the paperwork.

But maybe don't start planning the vacation just yet. 😂

We came across this decluttering idea and, well… we have questions. 😂

Apparently, there’s a whole new way to get unwanted stuff out of your house: quietly relocate it to someone else’s.

A mug in their cupboard.
A book on their bookshelf.
Something tucked onto a shelf where it looks like it’s always belonged.

Is this an officially recommended decluttering strategy? **Absolutely not.** 🤣

Is the thought of waiting to see how long it takes someone to notice hilarious? **Absolutely.**

But *where* and *how* something is sold can matter just as much as what you're selling.

We’re excited to share that Robin & Sarah are featured in the August issue of Legacy Living — Lakes Region Lifestyle Magazine!
