We finished up the duplex building pad project yesterday morning. This phase of the project involved excavating and leveling the building pad areas to the required elevations while efficiently managing the cut material from the site.

A large amount of material was loaded and hauled across the road to separate future building lots where it will be utilized as fill material for building pads in the future. Moving and reusing material in this manner helps keep future development moving efficiently while reducing the need for imported fill.

After excavation and hauling operations were completed, the duplex pad areas were graded in preparation for the builder to start construction. The future pad areas across the road were rough graded in preparation for future additional fill and site prep. Always good seeing a project start coming together from the ground up.

Started a new building pad project for a builder in Topeka, KS yesterday. This first phase consists of cutting in two duplex house pads and preparing the sites for future construction.

The material excavated from these pads will be hauled across the road and reused as structural fill for an additional 3–4 duplex pads, helping maximize on-site material and reduce waste while keeping the project moving efficiently.

Finished up the pond basin repair in Maple Hill, KS at the end of last week. We excavated and removed all sediment from the pond basin, hauling it to the south pasture and spreading it out for drying. The entire pond was then re-shaped from the water inlet all the way to the dam to improve overall function and appearance.

While excavating near the water inlet, we located a good source of clay material. The customer also wanted additional depth in this area for a future dock, which worked out perfectly. We were able to deepen that section while utilizing the quality clay material to rebuild and strengthen the main basin, adding approximately 20” of compacted clay throughout the pond floor. All clay was placed and compacted in lifts to help ensure long-term durability and water retention.

To wrap the project up, we finish graded all disturbed areas and cleared overgrowth around the dock and drain tube area to improve access, appearance, and overall functionality.

It was busy last week!

We were finally able to get the burn pile from the water inlet project lit off Saturday morning after waiting out Wabaunsee County’s April burn restrictions. Patience paid off.

Over in Maple Hill, the siphon did its job and we were able to draw the pond down enough to get started pushing silt out of the basin. From here, the plan is to rebuild the basin with good clay, feathering it back into the dam to create a solid, long-term repair.

Rain earlier this week forced us to shift a few projects around, but we stayed productive and kept things moving.

The pond repair project we were scheduled to start took on a significant amount of water from Monday’s storms, so we built a siphon system to begin lowering the water level. A big thank you to Chase Kesl for passing this knowledge along, you are missed my friend.

While the siphon was doing its job, we completed a small trenching project for a customer to install a french drain. We started on a project in Topeka at Lake Sherwood, excavating evergreen bushes along the shoreline to prepare for new landscaping and a small potential limestone wall lining the shoreline, this will get wrapped up Monday morning. Then onto the pond project.

Even with the rain delays, we’re thankful to keep making progress and appreciate all of our customers’ patience and support.

Water Inlet Progress – Before & After

Cleared out the trees and opened this area up to create a proper water inlet feeding into the customer’s existing pond. This will help improve water flow, reduce washouts, and keep things functioning the way it should long-term.

Customer will be coming back in to handle final seeding and finish work.

Always good to see these transformations take shape 👍

We’ll be finishing up tomorrow with burning off the tree pile and building a terrace to catch runoff from his west field.

Before ➡️ Progress | Waterway & Inlet Prep

Had to take a break from the Louisburg project as it rained everyday last week. Started this project on Friday in Maple Hill, KS by clearing out trees and opening up the area where a new waterway will be cut in to feed the pond.

Next step: shaping and grading the channel for proper flow.

Good prep work sets everything up to be done right.

Tire blew on the trailer yesterday evening headed home. Had to swap out on the side of the road this morning. At least it wasn’t stolen overnight!

We have finally been able to get back to the pond project in Louisburg, KS after the customer had added new projects of more importance. Dealing with some rock, so get it excavated for clay basin.
