Black Ice Season is upon us!!!

Make sure that you have ample salt on hand at your facility and make sure that your contracted snow removal provider is providing 24/7 support for spot salting's to avoid expensive and painful slips/trips/falls!!!

Just because it isn’t a Manufacturing Facility doesn’t mean trip hazards do not exist. I spotted this in a restaurant the other day. The cord is loosely fastened to the floor as well as to a table on wheels. This is a true recipe for a trip and fall disaster.

Assess your work environment carefully and make sure that you have fully addressed situations like these both on the plant floor as well as in your offices.

Does your facility have a defined TRUCK DOCKING POLICY!?!

Here is a great baseline to work from:

- Verify that the trucks engine is off
- Verify that the trucks emergency brake is set
- Verify that the rearmost tires on both sides of the trailer are chocked
- Attach a Glad Hand Lock or a Dock Lock to the Trailer
- Do not allow the truck operator back into his/her truck until the loading/unloading task is complete.

Once all of these steps are completed/verified then and only then is it safe to set the dock leveler or dock plate and load/unload the trailer.

Failure to follow such a policy can have fatal consequences...
