Abbey Louie

Abbey Louie I help leaders develop themselves and their people. Feeling capable as a leader should be the norm. But it isn't. You need more support. Tools. Training. Coaching.

Most managers feel overextended & under-equipped. If you’re like 87% of today’s managers, you were promoted into leadership with little to no guidance on how to actually lead well. Anything, really. You’re working hard to figure it out as you go, but intuition doesn’t always tell you how to set clear expectations without micromanaging. How to give difficult feedback. How to coach your employees. H

ow to structure an effective one-on-one. Or how to build trust on your team. You shouldn't have to figure it out on your own. Our programs give you the proven leadership practices you need to lead with skill and confidence.

Recently, my doctor didn't know what to do with an issue I brought to her.

How do you respond when asked a question you feel unprepared to answer, especially when you're supposed to be the expert on the issue? Most of us feel stressed and worry that a lack of knowledge will harm our credibility.

My doctor's response bolstered my trust in and respect for her. I think we can learn from her example in this Two-Minute Tip: https://www.abbeylouie.com/blog/what-to-do-when-you-dont-know-the-answer

When this post goes live, I'll be out horseback riding in the fresh mountain air on a dude ranch 🐴 (wish me luck!).

This is a particularly special vacation with my entire family as we're there to celebrate my parents' 50th anniversary.

Reflecting on their five decades of commitment got me thinking, and naturally turned into a quick tip I wanted to share with you.

So, without further ado, let's dive into this week's Two-Minute Tip: https://www.abbeylouie.com/blog/unhappy-in-your-job

It's no secret that we have seen a rise in attrition over the past few years. While I am a huge advocate of people finding work that brings a sense of purpose and joy to their lives, I think we have overcorrected into a norm of jumping ship too quickly. Here’s why, and what we can do about it.

Have you ever wondered what work would be like without a manager over you? Sometimes it feels like our work might actually be easier and more efficient without hierarchy in the way.

Let's cut to the chase: do we even need formal leadership structure in place if we have smart, high-performing employees?

Google didn't think so back in 2002. Watch this week's video to find out what happened when they removed managers and flattened the organization.

If you open a new tab and search for What's the foundation of a healthy team?, you'll find "trust" right at the top. We all recognize its absolute importance, yet sometimes we're unsure of how to build it.

In today's Two-Minute Tip, I'll draw on a recent parenting analogy to illustrate what I believe to be the most effective method for building trust with your employees.

Thanks to extensive research conducted by James Kouzes and Barry Posner, we know which leadership behaviors are exercised most frequently by managers and which are neglected.

Want to know which one ranks at the bottom? Watch today's quick video to find out and learn how you can start leveraging this critical practice more effectively.

This Two-Minute Tip stems from something I have struggled with for years, so today's message has extra personal meaning for me.

I would absolutely love to see us reimagine the status quo in our workplaces around this challenge.

Please watch and, if you're a people leader, TAKE ACTION to challenge convention in your organization. When you do, would you please let me know?

Genuine servant leaders are my favorite to work with. They're humble, truly care about their teams, and are willing to serve and support in a variety of ways.

But sometimes, I see their ability to serve well fall short when they forget to consistently practice one of the most important, basic leadership functions.

Find out what it is and make sure you're not neglecting this practice in today's Two-Minute Tip.

Important disclaimer: today's Two-Minute Tip was recorded a few weeks ago. In it, I share yet another relatable, personal story; but please note that when I mention “working in the kitchen last Sunday," it was actually a few Sundays back and not on Mother's Day (my husband and girls took very good care of me on this celebratory day!).

Dive into this week's short video to explore why your efforts to make employees feel cared for might be missing the mark.

I recently received the notorious "leg bump” under the table from my husband at a dinner event. You know the kind…the hidden nudge warning you to take the conversation in a new direction.

What I was sharing at that dinner event was not being received in the way I intended, and I was completely oblivious.

It was a classic case of “false consensus effect” at play—a cognitive bias causing me to mistakenly assume others shared my perspective.

Watch this week's Two-Minute Tip to understand how this phenomenon infiltrates the workplace and what you can do to mitigate the risks.

There are two other critical areas of delegation that are often overlooked. Can you guess what they are?

Thanks to a helpful recent tip from leadership expert Bobby Powers, I was prompted to address these two areas in this week's Two-Minute Tip.

We all want to believe that we treat everyone around us equally, or at least fairly. But the truth is that by human design, our brains automatically play favorites.

As a leader, it's critical to move this subconscious phenomenon into your conscious awareness, and then do something about it. Today's quick tip video will help you do just that.
