In recent weeks, many Idahoans have been opening some of their highest power bills of the year. Even for homeowners with solar, selling excess energy back to the utility no longer delivers the same value it once did due to Idaho Power's changes to its net-metering policy.

However, pairing your rooftop solar with battery storage allows you to save the energy you produce during the day for evenings, early mornings, or outages.

Sigenergy’s flexible battery blocks let you start with the storage capacity that fits your home today and expand later. It can pair with virtually any existing solar system, so you can begin using more of the energy your panels produce without starting over.

Solar win: Greater value + energy independence from an existing system ☀️

This homeowner already had a powerful 70-panel solar array helping cover a significant portion of their energy needs. Last month, they took the next step by adding a 24 kWh Sigenergy battery storage system.

Now, instead of sending all of their daytime solar production back to the grid, they can store more of that energy at home for later use (like after the sun goes down or during a power outage).

For this household, battery storage means:
💵 Greater control over rising utility costs
⚡️ More of their own solar energy available when they need it
🔋 Backup power to help keep their home running during an outage

If you already have solar, a battery may be the next step toward greater energy independence and outage preparedness. Let’s talk about what storage could look like for your home.

Meet Shane Sherrod, First-Year Electrical Apprentice at EGT Solar! 🌞

Shane joined EGT earlier this summer, and he’s been a great addition to our install crew. During his off hours, he’s busy continuing his education via College of Western Idaho’s electrical program and spending time with his family. ⚡️

Read on for our Q&A with Shane. 👇🏼

💬 LOCAL TO:
“Kuna. I have lived in Idaho for about 27 years.”

💬 PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND:
“I used to be a Certified Pharmacy Tech, but found out it didn't keep my interest. I then went into HVAC distribution in a warehouse, then moved on to a beef plant where I promoted to different departments, ultimately ending there as an Industrial Electrician. I saw a post on Facebook about EGT hiring, and I have always been interested in getting solar panels to live off-grid, so I thought, what better way to learn than to work somewhere that I can continue my education as an electrician and learn to install solar myself? I am in my second year of school in the electrical program at CWI.”

💬 MOST PASSIONATE ABOUT:
“The opportunity to build and grow myself, as well as the opportunity to fulfill my dream of living in a remote area and still having power.”

💬 GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT:
“My greatest achievement in my life would be my wife and kids. They're the reason I strive every day to improve myself.”

💬 FUN FACT:
“I became an Eagle Scout at the age of 14.”

💬 FAVORITE SUNNY DAY PASTIMES:
“Anything outside/the mountains: camping, hunting, fishing, etc.”

💬 A CAUSE WITH SPECIAL MEANING:
“Raising awareness for veteran su***de. Locally, I helped raise money for a non-profit called Ride for 22.”

💬 COOLEST APPLICATION OF SOLAR:
“The whole home backups, because that's something that intrigues me and aligns with my future goals.”
