Fingerprinting vs County Level Searches

Fingerprinting Limitations:

May miss records that were never reported to state or federal databases.
Arrests may appear without final case outcomes.
Can take longer and cost more.
Requires in-person or authorized fingerprint collection.
Some databases are not updated consistently by local jurisdictions.
County-Level Criminal Searches

County searches check criminal court records directly at the county courthouse or county court database where a person has lived or worked.

What county searches typically include:

Felony convictions
Misdemeanors
Pending criminal cases
Court dispositions
Sentencing information

Advantages:

Often the most current and detailed criminal record source.
Better visibility into local court activity and recent filings.
Usually includes disposition details that national databases may lack.
Faster and less expensive than fingerprint checks in many cases.
