What do you do if insurance completely denies your claim?

That's what happened to one of our clients, who was out of the country when their house flooded.
πŸ‘‰ The first floor flooded 3 inches
πŸ‘‰ Ceiling tiles bowed from water damage in the pipes
πŸ‘‰ Electrical components failed completely

This seems like an easy case, but the claim was still denied.

Their insurance claimed that since the furnace was not on, the damage was the insured party's fault, even though the homeowner was away from the house for an extended period of time.

So, they called a Public Adjuster.

Once we were able to inspect the property and negotiate with the insurance company, we were able to secure the client a fair payout of over $31,000.

From absolutely nothing to $31K.

That's the different a Public Adjuster can make.

Once you hire a Public Adjuster, you never go back!

Many are skeptical about hiring a Public Adjuster for their claims, but most of our clients always recommend it to people going through similar situations.

But don't take out word: hear it from one of our own former clients. The work speaks for itself!

The Midwest is about to hit a new record...it's not a good one.

Now that Illinois has had over 200 tornadoes this year, it's only a couple dozen away from beating the record for most tornadoes in a single state in a year (currently held by Texas, with 232 in 2015).

This has rattled the entire Midwest, with neighboring states like Indiana receiving more tornadoes that usual, as well.

The worst part, though, is how this affects the average homeowner.

Many Midwestern homes are not prepared for these kinds of storms, and it's not guaranteed that insurance will pay for all the damages.

This is why it is important to have a plan in place, and know beforehand who you will consult if your property suffers damages, like a Public Adjuster (so you're not dealing with your insurance company alone).

What do you do if insurance denies a completely legitimate claim?

It happens more often than you think!

This client had their house destroyed by flooding damage, and insurance was ready to deny it because their heater wasn't on...even though they were out of the country.

These types of scenarios are great examples of where Public Adjusters can step in!

Insurance should be paying more than just damages to your house.

If disaster strikes, most likely, there will be a lot more damaged than just the structure, and many other things needs to be considered when discussing fair compensation.

Here are things to remember when considering what you should be compensated for:

1. Personal Property πŸ–₯️

If you have a housefire, there's a lot more than just your house that's damaged.

Insurance coverage for these kinds of disasters usually includes your personal property. Make sure all your damaged items are properly accounted for.

2. Additional Living Expenses (ALE) 🏠

If your house is unlivable from damages, where do you go until it's fixed?

Many insurance policies can provide coverage for making sure you have somewhere to live until your property is returned to its original state.

But most importantly, if you are stuck waiting for a claim to be fulfilled, call a Public Adjuster. They are licensed to directly help the insured party in a claim and make sure you are fully compensated.

If you have a file an insurance claim for damages to your property, make sure not to make these mistakes:

πŸ‘‰ Accepting the first offer without questioning it.

Your insurance company's first offer is a starting point. Don't treat it like a final offer.

You have the right to review the estimate line by line and challenge items that don't add up.

πŸ‘‰ Failing to document the damage thoroughly

Photos, videos, written receipts, whatever you have.

These all prove that certain items existed in your house, and documenting its existence may be the different between being compensated and not.

πŸ‘‰ Not hiring a Public Adjuster

Public Adjusters can help you through the entire insurance claims process, beginning to end.

Do you know about Allstate's Claims Core Process Redesign? It might be one of the most important developments in insurance in the past 30 years.

For better or for worse.

It's seen by many as the start of a huge shift in the insurance industry, who's effects can still be felt in today's claims process.

This is a great representation about how its effects are still present today, and why Public Adjusters, or some form of representation, is so important to have if you're fighting a claim underpayment.

Lawyers who have accumulated more than 1,200 bad faith insurance cases against State Farm and Allstate are now speaking publicly for the first time about secret documents that reveal decades-long schemes to deny roof damage claims. Meanwhile, a judge set a December trial date in the Hursh case and a...

The worst part about a fire? It can happen at any moment.

Whether you have the resources to handle it or not, a fire can come and turn your life upside down!

This is why it is essential to be prepared and have the resources lined up for when you need them.

And one of the most important factors: who you'll call first.

Many assume that they should call their insurance company right away, but this can work against you.

From the very first call, they are analyzing everything you say, and in those first moments of distress, it's very possible to say something that might damage your claim (see our other posts about that πŸ‘€)

This is why you should have a Public Adjuster you're ready to call.

Public Adjusters work directly for the insured, and they can guide you through the insurance process to make sure you're getting a fair payout.

So, if disaster strikes, make sure you have a plan in place!

Has "Tornado Alley" moved?

This year, Illinois has seen more EF2+ tornadoes than any other state at a total of 14 so far, with Indiana close behind at 11.

For comparison, Texas had the most tornadoes last year (2025), and they had 13 EF2+ tornadoes throughout the entire year.

What does this mean for homeowners?

For one, many of the heavily affected areas are not used to this many tornadoes in such a short timespan.

This means:
πŸ‘‰ Homes might not have proper safety precautions to protect against weather damage
πŸ‘‰ Documentation of damages might not be exhaustive enough for insurance claims
πŸ‘‰ Homeowners might not know the right steps to take after their house is damaged

Luckily, professionals like Public Adjusters are very active across the Midwest, and can help homeowners handle complex insurance claims when disaster strikes.
