If you are working to rebuild your score, you’ve probably seen a lot of "magic tricks" advertised online.

Let's break down what actually works versus what is just a scam to protect your wallet:

❌ MYTH: A credit repair company can delete accurate, recent negative items from your report.

✅ REALITY: Nobody can legally remove accurate and verifiable information. If you fell behind on a payment, that history stays for up to 7 years. Credit restoration focuses on removing inaccurate, outdated, or unverified errors.

❌ MYTH: You can get a "Credit Privacy Number" (CPN) to start a brand new credit profile.

✅ REALITY: CPNs are a massive red flag. Using a fake number or an EIN to hide your credit history on a personal application is federal fraud. Legitimate credit building always uses your legal identity.

❌ MYTH: Paying off a collection automatically jumps your score by 100 points overnight.

✅ REALITY: While paying collections is great for your overall financial health, older scoring models don't automatically delete the history just because the balance hits zero. It requires strategic negotiation, such as a "pay-for-delete" agreement, to actually see a score improvement.
