Other Side Ministries OtherSide Ministries (OSM) is a 501(c)(3) love-based ministry. We exist to re-ignite hope through opportunity and mentorship.

At the heart of Otherside Ministries (OSM), is our desire to help those that society has dismissed and rejected. Often those struggling just to survive and make it through another day have lost hope that there is a way out of the vicious cycle of poverty. Here's how OSM provides abundant HOPE to our community:

JOB TRAINING- “A New Beginning” is our culinary arts training program for those that ar

e currently homeless, in danger of becoming homeless, or starting over after incarceration. Our classes are 100% free to approved applicants and they graduate with a food handler’s card and a course certification that allows them to immediately find employment in the field. Students are guided from start to finish in the basics like sanitation and food safety up through gourmet meal creation. Job readiness is the top priority of this program, so assistance with resumes, interview techniques, and job placement is also provided. OUTREACH- Allowing our culinary students an opportunity to give back to their community and peers through our partnership with Genesis Project is an incredible way to grow them in their cooking skills. Even more importantly, they have the opportunity to be a beacon of hope to those who are still looking for a way out of poverty. We serve this free hot meal with no questions asked every other Sunday. If you are hungry, please come and partake at Genesis Project- 564 N. Idaho Rd; Apache Junction, AZ 85119. CATERING SERVICES- We have our very own catering company that we use to gainfully employ our students and give them on-the-job training. Our focus is on empowering each of them by giving them a well-rounded education with real-life opportunities. With each meal that they serve, they prove to themselves and everyone else that they are going to be an OtherSide Ministry success story. It truly was amazing to be back serving again!! Thank you to all the volunteers that showed up, cooked, served, and cleaned with smiles on there faces and an outpouring of Holy Spirt in their hearts. You guys are all amazing! 225 meals in just over thirty minutes! Lots of compliments on the food.

Today's food focus is brisket.
Why use brisket?

A brisket is found underneath the cow. It is made up of two overlapping pectoral muscles. This muscle, giving its location, is responsible for stabilizing the cow when they are standing. Due to its location and muscle overlap it is perfect for BBQ. The muscles are called the deckle and the flat or blade. The flat is leaner and is traditionally used for sliced brisket plates or sandwiches. The deckle is fatter and is used for chopped brisket sandwiches and plates.

The technique of cooking slow and low helps to break down the muscles and release the fat. We use a mixture of brown sugar and spices designed to create a dark rich crust called a bark and seals in the juices.

We utilize both cuts for our sandwich. We believe the flavor provided from chopped along with the rich bark and smoke of the sliced creates a perfect BBQ meal. We top ours with our house KC BBQ sauce and fried onion straws to add that crispy salt notes to it.
