A contractor's prequalification account typically comes to JJ Safety in one of two ways.

Some contractors partner with us from the very beginning, allowing our team to create and manage their prequalification account from the ground up. Others come to us with an existing account, seeking assistance to improve their compliance, resolve deficiencies, or manage ongoing maintenance.

The contractor account is assigned to a dedicated account manager who serves as the contractor’s primary point of contact. Rather than simply maintaining the account, the Account Manager takes a proactive approach to monitoring compliance and helping ensure the contractor remains audit-ready throughout the year.

Account Managers regularly review contractor management platform accounts, monitor new hiring client requirements, identify missing or expired documentation, and coordinate updates to keep the account compliant. They also assist with questionnaire revisions, upload required documentation, RAV/TRAV creations and uploads, communicate changes in platform requirements, and work directly with contractors to resolve compliance issues before they impact the account.

Our account managers also work directly with your insurance agents to collect and review required insurance documentation. They help identify any insurance-related rejections, coordinate corrections with your agent, and collaborate with the hiring client to obtain necessary insurance variances when your existing coverage does not fully meet hiring client requirements.

JJ Safety's Account Managers provide ongoing weekly account management, helping contractors maintain strong compliance scores while reducing the administrative burden of managing platforms such as ISNetworld®, Avetta®, Veriforce®, ComplyWorks®, and other contractor management systems. Their goal is to keep contractor accounts current, compliant, and ready for new business opportunities, allowing contractors to focus on operating and growing their business instead of navigating complex compliance requirements.

October is National Protect Your Hearing Month, a time to raise awareness about workplace noise hazards and remind workers of the importance of protecting their hearing.

Noise exposure is one of the most common workplace hazards and can lead to Noise-Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL), a permanent condition caused by repeated or prolonged exposure to loud sounds. NIHL can develop slowly over time, making it important to recognize noise hazards and take action before hearing damage occurs.

Sounds at or above 85 decibels (dBA) over an 8-hour workday can put workers at risk of hearing damage and may require a hearing conservation program.

Tips to protect your hearing at work:
→ Wear appropriate hearing protection, such as earplugs or earmuffs, when exposed to loud noise
→ Know the noise levels in your work area and recognize when protection is needed
→ Take breaks from high-noise environments when possible
→ Keep equipment properly maintained to help reduce unnecessary noise
→ Report damaged or ineffective hearing protection
→ And, participate in workplace hearing tests and training when required

Your hearing is something you cannot replace. This October, take action to recognize noise hazards, use the right protection, and help create a workplace where hearing safety is a priority.

What makes a contractor stand out during prequalification?

Many contractors focus on meeting the minimum requirements. The companies that stand out go beyond that!

Strong contractors demonstrate:
✓ Organized documentation
✓ Strong safety performance
✓ Current training records
✓ Leadership involvement
✓ A proactive safety culture

Clients are not only looking for contractors who can complete the work. They are looking for contractors they can trust.

Safety is not just a requirement. It is a competitive advantage.

What is a near miss, and why should companies report them?

Many companies only focus on incidents that cause injuries. But some of the most valuable safety information comes from events where nobody was hurt.

A near miss is an unplanned event where an injury, illness, or damage could have occurred, but did not.

Examples:
• A tool falls but misses a worker
• A worker nearly slips but catches themselves
• Equipment fails but no one is injured

Near misses provide an opportunity to:
• Identify hazards early
• Correct unsafe conditions
• Prevent future incidents
• Improve safety processes

A near miss is not something to ignore. It is a warning sign.

What does it take to begin moving forward after losing someone you love?

In this clip from Risk To Reward, Maryanne Pope talks about her book, "A Widow’s Awakening", and the year of grief, confusion, and healing it captures after the loss of her husband, John Petropoulos.

Maryanne shares how writing became a way to process her grief and make sense of what had happened, while also beginning the work that would become the John Petropoulos Memorial Fund.

Healing wasn’t quick, and it wasn’t easy. But eventually, she had to ask herself an important question: how do I move forward and learn to be happy again?

OSHA Recordable or First Aid? The difference matters.

Many employers assume every workplace injury belongs on the OSHA 300 Log, but that's not always the case.

Understanding what qualifies as first aid versus medical treatment beyond first aid can help you stay compliant and avoid inaccurate recordkeeping.

If you're ever unsure whether an incident should be recorded, don't guess. JJ Safety can help you review the situation and keep your OSHA records accurate.

Save this post for future reference and share it with someone responsible for workplace safety.

Do safety meetings actually improve workplace safety?

A safety meeting is only effective if it creates communication. A meeting that is simply reading from a paper and collecting signatures may meet a requirement, but it does not necessarily improve safety.

Effective safety meetings should:
→ Discuss real hazards employees face
→ Encourage employee participation
→ Address recent incidents or near misses
→ Provide practical solutions
→ Create open communication

The goal of a safety meeting is not just documentation. The goal is preventing injuries before they happen.

A conversation today can prevent an incident tomorrow.
