It’s that time of year to talk about cold stunned turtles. Cold stunning happens when water temperatures drop
below 50 degrees. Turtles have a hypothermic reaction causing severe lethargy and immobility, leaving them vunerable to predators, boat strikes, frostbite, health issues, and even drowning. What to do if you see a cold stunned turtle? Please contact FWC immediately, or one of your area turtle patrols. You must be under permit, or be otherwise authorized personnel to handle sea turtles. Time is of the essence in these cases, and we greatly appreciate your help!
