🚨 BREAKING DOWN YOUR TOP 5 STUDENT LOAN QUESTIONS
Over 200,000 of you engaged with my previous update regarding the $23 Billion settlement and 500,000 federal student loan discharges. The questions in my DMs and comments have been nonstop—so I’m addressing the top 5 directly to give you the clarity and facts you need:
1️⃣ "My non-profit/Head Start employer closed—how do I certify for PSLF?"
You don't lose qualifying payments! Check the box on StudentAid.gov stating your employer is closed/unable to sign, and upload your W-2s or IRS wage transcripts for manual review.
2️⃣ "Do Parent PLUS Loans qualify for PSLF?"
Yes! But eligibility is based on the parent’s qualifying employment (not the student's), and the loan must be consolidated into a Direct Consolidation Loan on an eligible repayment plan.
3️⃣ "My servicer changed to Aidvantage / I saw leak rumors online—does that mean my debt is wiped?"
No. Routine servicer transfers do not trigger automatic discharge, and internet rumors about "leaks" are not official relief. Forgiveness strictly follows established federal guidelines.
4️⃣ "Can I apply for Borrower Defense for ANY school?"
Yes. Borrower Defense is claim-based, not school-exclusive. If your institution engaged in provable misconduct, false job placement numbers, or misleading salary promises, you can file a claim with verifiable documentation.
5️⃣ "Why is my balance increasing even with forgiveness news?"
Federal relief programs are targeted, not blanket cancellations. Unless you are on an approved discharge or an IDR plan with interest subsidies, daily interest continues to accrue on standard repayment plans.
