EGPS is proud to recognize the accomplishments of former team member Elias Velez 🦅 Elias began his career with EGPS as an unarmed officer, advanced to become an armed officer, and ultimately earned his place as a School Guardian/Safe School Officer. Throughout his time with EGPS, we had the privilege of watching Elias grow both professionally and personally while continuing to pursue his goals. Today, we are proud to see Elias achieve one of those goals by becoming a Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Deputy 🚔

At EGPS, we take great pride in having former law enforcement officers within our ranks, but we are equally proud when our SSOs and other team members use their experience with EGPS as a stepping stone toward careers in law enforcement. Former members of our team now serve their communities at the local, county, state, and federal levels.

Week one is officially in the books. Our Safe School Officers showed up early, stayed alert, and made sure every campus started the year the right way. From our newest guardians to our most seasoned, we wish everyone a safe and joyful school year. Safety isn’t a slogan, it’s a standard we hold every single day.

Many of the men we work with carry two roles at once: protector at home, and protector on post. Before they were fathers, a lot of them wore a different uniform: military, law enforcement, and beyond. Now they put that same discipline to work standing watch over schools, campuses, and the people who depend on us to keep them safe. That kind of commitment doesn’t switch off when the shift ends. It’s the same steady presence at the dinner table as it is on duty.

Their sacrifice is the reason we are able to do what we do. Standing watch over our schools, protecting our children, and safeguarding the future they fought so hard to defend.

Some days remind us exactly why we do this work. When a kindergartener at began choking and losing consciousness, Corporal Henry Villagra didn’t hesitate. He stepped in, took control of the situation, and was quickly able to dislodge the item, saving her life.

The dangerous situation could have ended in tragedy but it didn’t. We are incredibly proud of Safe School Officer Henry and grateful for the trust our schools place in us every day. This is the standard we hold ourselves to, because every child deserves to go home safe.
