What does Magic mean to you?
Magic is in all of us, it’s what makes life worth living and pushes us into the sublime, the mystical, the subconscious. All of us are magic.

Bio:
I am Grey Pierre-Louis , a multi-disciplinary cultural practitioner. My objective is to delve in the duality between the spiritual existence of the ethereal and political resistance. Focusing on the figure and space against their esoteric expectation.

Artist: Dimitry Saïd Chamy Card: Knight - Across the Suits

What doers Magic mean to you?
Magic is anything on the very edge of the probable that catches fire to warm the hearts of those that are lucky enough to witness it, be inspired, and pass it on.

Bio:
Dimitry Saïd Chamy is a transdisciplinary artist, designer, and cultural producer. Working from a q***r, mixed Haïtian-Lebanese immigrant perspective, he explores speculative futures, human generative systems, and symbolic world-building through participatory co-creation and storytelling though media, systems, video, installation, and code.

An Oolite Arts Creator Award recipient, Chamy has exhibited from Miami to Beijing, including Fashion Week at Lincoln Center, New York, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco, and Locust Projects in Miami, where he was also a resident teaching artist.

In 2022, he produced The BluPrnt Show, curated by Robert Chambers, with 395 artists and works spanning a 120+ year cross-section of Miami art history assembled by an all-volunteer team and covered by The New York Times. Chamy holds an MFA in Graphic Design from Yale University.

Chamy has taught at six universities and served as an Erasmus+ Scholar and Honorary Chair at the Art Academy in Latvia. Chamy is currently a Research Associate Professor and Resident Artist at the Ratcliffe Art + Design Incubator at Florida International University in Miami, where he bases his studio.

What Does Magic Mean to You?
Magic means resilience. To regenerate when the world tries to destroy you over and over again. Through our work, our community, and our community magic is our existence and all the ways we occupy space.

Bio of Artist .art:
Carrington Ware (b. 1993) is a multidisciplinary artist working with illustration, appropriated video, sound, textiles, and installation. She works with various mediums to foster her creative need to shift while reexamining representation. Her practice explores Black joy as a form of resistance to the persistent narrative of Black trauma. From this exploration, experimental archival narratives of familial stories, nostalgia, memories, and experiences are at the forefront of her work.

Artist: Nicole Salcedo Card: 18. La Luna

What Does Magic Mean to You?
Magic is the link between the sacred and the mundane.

Bio:
Nicole Salcedo () is a Cuban-American, q***r, multi-disciplinary artist based in Miami, Florida. She works in sculpture, fibers, performance, and film, with a foundational practice in drawing and pattern design. Nicole’s drawings open up pathways that offer a deeper understanding of consciousness and the various connections between our bodies and the environment. Using repetitive marks to create patterns and webs of energy within her work. Incorporating human-elemental hybrid figures that reflect various scales of ecosystems and natural phenomena that exist within and around us.

Salcedo’s influences include botany, fractals, the physics of electromagnetic energy, and her animistic spiritual practice. By delving into her personal experiences and cultural heritage, Salcedo creates art that speaks to universal themes of identity, transformation, and interconnectedness. Salcedo’s work draws us closer to the mystery of existence and invites us to embrace the beauty and complexity of the world around us.

Artist: Rebecca White Card: 17. The Star

What Does Magic Mean to You?
What it is, still a mystery. But it’s there, and it is persistent. I put my ear to the ground, in search of what is rumbling deep in collective memory.

Bio:
Rebecca White (), born 1985, lives and works in Miami, FL. Rebecca received a BA from Belhaven University, and participated in a Painting and Drawing Intensive at the Art Institute of Chicago.

Her work often speaks to events that have societal relevance, centering the impact these occurrences have on our collective human spirit. While she works in diverse applications, including painting, mixed-media, and printmaking. The conceptual underpinnings of her work frequently connect to: mythologies, practices of working with energy and communication with the unseen, and esoteric notions such as alchemy and imagined languages.

Recent exhibition venues include Red Dot Miami, Feria Clandestina, and Club Gallery Miami. She is a Resident Artist at Gasper Arts Center in Dania Beach, FL. Her work is held in private collections in Miami, Memphis, Chicago, Atlanta, San Francisco, Baltimore, and Washington D.C.

Artist: Najja Moon Card: 16. The Tower

What Does Magic Mean to You?
God’s grace.

Bio:
Najja Moon () is a Miami based artist and cultural practitioner, born and raised in Durham, North Carolina. Her visual arts practice uses drawing, text, and sound to explore the intersections of q***r identity, the body and movement, black culture, and familiar relations both personal and communal. A preacher’s kid and daughter of musicians raised on gospel music and HBCU’s, before she committed to being an artist full time, she was a basketball player who used to be a kid who wanted to be an artist. Her art practice has in some ways become the probing of these intersections.

Artist: Mario Mathias Card: 15. The Devil

What Does Magic Mean to You?
Magic is something I am very comfortable with. My Zodiac sign, Aquarius, is ruled by the planet Uranus and it is said that we, Aquarians are all about mystery and imagination, magic is very much a part those two things.

Bio:
Cuban-born artist Mario Matias migrated to the US in 1960 fleeing the Castro regime, settling in San Diego. Despite lacking formal training, he excelled in art from a young age, drawing inspiration from his family's artistic talents. Mario holds degrees in Classical Studies and Landscape Architecture. For over 40 years, he led Berrington - Mathias Landscape Architects in LA.

Mario's award-winning work has been featured in international publications, including Architectural Digest and Landscape Architecture, as well as in garden books. His designs have been featured in celebrity residences, such as those of Madonna, Elizabeth Taylor, and Lionel Richie.

In 2002, he moved to Miami with his husband of now more than 55 years, Larry. That same year Mario started painting and drawing his lovers and friends, many of whom, died in the AIDS epidemic. In 2023 Mathias exhibited his work for the first time at the age of 76. Mario’s practice is fast, oftentimes only taking a few days to draw and throughout his process the subject often reveals themselves as someone he knows.
