How many degrees does it take for a woman to be seen as equally qualified?

Spoiler: More than a man will ever need.

Despite outpacing men in higher education, women—especially women of color—are still fighting for the recognition, promotions, and pay they already deserve. Why? Because of the credentials paradox—the unspoken rule that women must be twice as qualified for half the reward.

For women of color, the gap is even more pronounced, as bias compounds the challenge. It’s not just about degrees—it’s about systemic barriers, outdated perceptions, and a playing field that isn’t just uneven, but different.
