There was a little girl standing next to my son today who broke my heart.
And reminded me exactly why I built my business the way I did.
I just came back from the Mother’s Day celebration at my son’s school.
When I arrived, they were just getting started.
And the moment my son saw me… his eyes lit up.
He started dancing, smiling, fully present in the performance they had been practicing for so long. And this time, I decided to experience it differently.
I didn’t record it. I didn’t watch him through a screen.
I just watched him.
I smiled with him. Danced with him. Stayed fully present in the moment.
But at the same time, I couldn’t stop noticing the little girl standing next to him.
She wasn’t dancing. She looked sad. Quiet. Almost frozen.
Her mom wasn’t there yet.
And instantly… I saw myself.
I remembered being that little girl so many times growing up — hoping my mom would make it to the school activity, the performance, the special moment.
Most of the time, she was working.
That little girl is the reason I stopped negotiating with myself about my schedule.
It’s the reason I built a business with structure — so I never have to choose between a client call and a school performance.
Not just financial freedom. Time freedom. Presence.
The ability to actually be there for the moments that don’t come back.
And no — I know it’s not easy. I know not everyone has the same circumstances or opportunities.
But here’s the beautiful part:
By the end of the performance, her mom made it.
And the moment she arrived… that little girl completely lit up.
You could feel the shift instantly.
Because presence matters.
More than we think.
And today, more than anything, I’m just deeply grateful that I got to be there.
If you’re a mom building a business and quietly wondering if it has to feel this heavy — it doesn’t.
That’s the work I do. 🤍
