Stop believing social media. 7 out of 10 people don’t even have $500 saved in an emergency fund.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned over the years is that personal finance isn’t just about maximizing returns. It’s about designing a life.
Could I have invested every extra dollar instead of paying off my mortgage? Sure. Over a long enough time horizon, that may have produced a higher expected net worth.
But paying off my home gave me something a spreadsheet couldn’t measure:
Freedom.
It lowered my monthly expenses, reduced my financial stress, and eventually gave me the confidence to walk away from a six-figure corporate career to build my own business.
That’s why I don’t believe there’s one “correct” answer for everyone.
If your goal is to maximize every expected dollar, investing instead may win.
If your goal is to maximize freedom, reducing fixed expenses can be the better choice.
Different goals. Different strategies. Both can be right.
The key is making sure your financial decisions support the life you actually want—not the one someone else thinks you should live.
What do you value more right now: maximizing wealth or maximizing freedom?

Imagine you have a $200,000 investment portfolio and consistently invest another $200 every month.

The year is 1929.

Four brutal years later, you look at your account and see:

$77,492.

😳

You’ve continued investing the entire time…and you’re still down more than 60% from where you started.

The real question isn’t whether you know you’re supposed to stay invested.

Could you actually stomach seeing this and keep buying?

Thankfully, we never want to experience anything resembling the Great Depression again. But I think there’s tremendous value in stress-testing your portfolio against what has actually happened in market history.

Not just looking at percentages.

Actually seeing the dollars.

Because “the market fell 40%” feels a whole lot different than watching your $200,000 become $77,492.

If 89.93% of funds UNDERPERFORM the S&P 500? Why are we wasting time buying index funds & ETFs that are actively managed and cost us more in fees than a simple S&P 500 fund (VOO, SPY, etc)? Data is important, as it can make your investing life more simple.

The financial gap between the top 10% and top 1% is a wild roller coaster after 45. The numbers are insane!

In 2009, I had to borrow on my credit card to pay our monthly rent payment. Today, I'm financially free. How? Through a simple budgeting process that ANYONE can follow. The real secret was NOT a fancy budget app. It was simply visualizing what was actually happening with my money using a plain spreadsheet.

The misunderstanding of Inflation can make you more fearful than necessary. Does this mean inflation is not higher? Not at all, but how we assess this data matters!

Investing $5 a day turned into $12,000 (no joke). Here's how:

1. I cut back on one thing I didn't need anymore to save myself $5 a day (or $152-ish per month).

2. I opened a brokerage to set up a recurring investment that doesn't involve a FEE per transaction.

3. I set it and forget it into a good solid S&P 500 index fund (not financial advice).

That's literally it. That's over 40% of GROWTH on what I invested.
