Last night, New York City didn’t just win a championship. She remembered who she was. 🗽🏆💙🧡
The Knicks brought home the Larry O’Brien Trophy for the first time in 53 years and somehow, in the middle of all that madness, I found myself inside Capitale witnessing the World Premiere of “Alicia Keys: Girl From Hell’s Kitchen” at the closing night of the 25th Anniversary Tribeca Festival.
New York was on fire. And we felt every single degree of it. 🔥
Watching Alicia Keys take the stage in her Knicks jacket, in HER city, on THAT night was something I’ll carry forever. This woman didn’t just make a documentary. She made a time capsule of New York. Of struggle. Of dreams born on concrete. Of a girl from Hell’s Kitchen who told the world her story and the world stopped to listen.
Then Nasir Jones walked out.
If you know, you know. There are no words for what happened in that room when Nas performed. That was New York rap royalty on a night when New York owned the entire universe. The energy was indescribable. 🎤👑
And then Shoshana Bean opened her mouth and time stopped.
Jersey and Alicia. Reunited. On stage. Together. The woman who played Alicia’s mother on Broadway, standing next to Alicia herself holding hands, voices intertwined in a moment so raw and real it didn’t feel like a performance. It felt like a prayer. 🙏🎹
