A landmark observational study of 2,276 veterans, published by researchers at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, examined the relationship between ma*****na use and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptom severity.

The study found that initiating ma*****na use after residential treatment was associated with worse PTSD symptom severity, more severe alcohol problems, and increased violent behavior.

If you or a veteran you know are navigating PTSD, the VA offers dedicated mental health resources and evidence-based therapies: va.gov
