This week, we held a valuable institutional meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship of the Argentine Republic, where we had the opportunity to present the Global Mercosur Chamber of Commerce and Services and share our vision on business integration, regional cooperation, and the strengthening of ties among MERCOSUR countries.

🏛️ We especially appreciate the attention and time provided by the authorities of the Directorate General for MERCOSUR Affairs, as well as the opportunity to exchange ideas on initiatives aimed at economic development, business networking, and international cooperation.

🌎 Mercosur–European Union: A Historic Agreement at Risk?

This week, the debate surrounding the Mercosur–EU trade agreement reignited following a proposal by the European Commission to introduce "automatic safeguards" (also known as circuit breakers). These measures would restrict the entry of key Mercosur products — such as beef, poultry, and sugar — once certain import volumes are exceeded.

From Global Mercosur – Chamber of Commerce, we are closely monitoring this development and firmly state our position:

📌 An agreement of this magnitude must be based on principles of balance, predictability, and reciprocity — not clauses that may become disguised trade barriers or harm the structural competitiveness of our exports.

🔍 The Mercosur–EU agreement represents not only an expansion of bilateral trade, but a concrete opportunity to raise production standards, drive sustainable investment, and strengthen value chains between two strategically complementary regions.

⚠️ However, the success of this deal depends on both parties honoring their initial commitments and establishing a framework that provides long-term certainty for the Mercosur business, agricultural, and industrial sectors.
