Please join us in welcoming our new summer intern, Johnny Mascal! 👋🏽

Johnny is currently an undergraduate student at the University of Miami, where he is studying Public Relations with minors in Advertising and Marine Science. His hospitality experience began early, with his first job at a vacation resort at just 14 years old, before later expanding into the restaurant world.

At Spark, Johnny is excited to learn more about the logistics, creative processes, and behind-the-scenes collaborations that bring large-scale productions and guest experiences to life. He hopes this experience helps strengthen his skills as he works toward his goal of entering the entertainment side of the cruise industry.

Outside of work, Johnny enjoys playing recreational lacrosse and heading out on spontaneous road trips around the country.

There’s a difference between creating experiences for a property versus creating them from a sense of place.

That idea continued to guide our recent time back onsite with The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort as we moved further into the work of shaping guest experience concepts rooted in the character of the property, the rhythm of St. Simons Island, and the distinct spirit of Coastal Georgia.

From shoreline sunrises and moss-draped oaks to local lore like the island’s Tree Spirits, St. Simons offers more than scenery. It offers a point of view. And when that point of view is taken seriously, it leads to more grounded creative thinking, stronger operational decisions, and experiences that feel like they belong.

During this phase of the project, our work focused on helping translate creative vision into tangible next steps through collaborative planning, concept development, implementation guidance, procurement support, and on-the-ground organization with the King and Prince team.

We’re proud to continue partnering with this historic coastal resort as it prepares for renovation and an exciting new chapter!

Our team recently had the opportunity to stay at Sandals Grande St. Lucian, spend time with the on-property teams, and experience guest programming firsthand, while also visiting Regency La Toc and Halcyon Beach to better understand how each resort brings its own distinct expression of the island to life.

What made the visit especially meaningful was the people. We had the pleasure of spending time with Mellisa Giddings, Regional Entertainment Manager, and Della John, GM, who welcomed us with warmth, generosity, and deep pride for both the resorts and St. Lucia itself. Their perspective reminded us that great guest experience work does not begin with programming on paper. It begins with listening, observing, understanding the rhythm of a place, and yes, learning how to lime a little along the way. 😎

Because that’s the real work, isn’t it? Not just walking a property and noting what exists, but understanding how it feels to be there, how culture shows up, how guests move, gather, celebrate, unwind, and connect.

We are excited for what is ahead with the Sandals St. Lucia team as we begin to reimagine entertainment and guest programming across these properties in ways that feel thoughtful, rooted, and alive.
