Today marks thirteen years since the line of duty death of Middleborough Firefighter David Brier. David suffered a work related medical emergency while on shift and ultimately passed away. Middleborough Firefighters Local 3653 remembers and honors the sacrifice made by David and so many others in this profession.

If money is transferred out of the municipal budget, 25% of Lakeville’s full-time firefighters and every call firefighter would be laid off. This would mean fewer firefighters available to respond, greater reliance on mutual aid, loss of ambulance revenue for the town, and increased risk to both residents and firefighters.

No matter the outcome, Lakeville Firefighters Local 3188 remains committed to serving and protecting our community.

As a result of the proposed elimination of civilian dispatch, a firefighter may be reassigned to dispatch obligations, resulting in one less firefighter available to respond to emergencies per shift. Reductions in on-the-road staffing can delay the rescue of a victim, increase fire growth and spread, limit the ability to perform simultaneous tasks, and reduce redundant safety measures for firefighters. Despite the financial challenges facing our community and many others, Middleborough Firefighters Local 3653 remains committed to providing the services our townspeople and visitors deserve.
