In response to the recent fires, the trailer was in need of some much needed TLC. Yesterday about 12 members gathered at the firehouse and cleaned everything from hose, tools to saws. We decided the trailer needed some changes as to the layout of some equipment and straps to keep the equipment from falling and keep it organized. We have learned that over the last couple years that we are making longer trips (Hardy Co.,WV and Cumberland Co.,PA.) and the equipment can jostle around. We figured it was roughly 18 years since the trailer was initially built, and it has worked well so far. Now we are ready for another 18 years.

After a very long day/night in PA, we are waiting for assignment at the bigger fire in shippensburg. Last night we assisted DCNR from PA with reinforcing the dozer line and then worked for about 4 hours containing a 6-8 spot fire.

Yesterday around 10am Wildland 7 was dispatched to assist Washington County Co. 16 (Mt. Aetna) with a large Mountain Fire. While enroute Wildland 7 advised that by the location of the fire on the Washington County side, it may have crossed over the Appalachian Trail into Frederick County. Access was gained on the Frederick County side to "investigate", it was found that the fire had not reached the A/T and better access was on the Washington County side.
Units arrived and staged near the firehouse, reported directly to "left flank" Washington County Chief 6 (Wildland 8). Units worked for several hours to contain the fire utilizing leaf blowers, hand tools, saws and foam from B-75.
Once again, I would like to thank the dedicated members of the Frederick County Wildland Team as well as the wonderful relationship we have with the 2 - Washington County Wildland Teams (Boonsboro and Clear Spring).

PLEASE PLEASE NO burning for the next 48 hours.

Saturday and Sunday Dec. 7th and 8th, the Wildland team assisted multiple units from several counties and states with a mountain fire in Berkley Springs, WV.

Saturday the team was alerted around 15:00, responded with 4 personnel, arrived in about an hour and prepared for fire attack and mop-up. Once we reached the top of the mountain, we met up with the other wildland teams from Washington County (4 & 8) and formalized a game plan. Shortly after we began attack, it was deemed "unsafe" due to the darkness and WVDOF pulled all the fire departments out of the woods. We operated for roughly 4 hours from dispatch and the fire size was roughly 20 acres.

Sunday the team was alerted (again) around 13:00, responded with 5 personnel, along with the wildland teams from Washington County to assist with the same fire as it grew exponentially over night to about 50 acres. Units arrived at a different section of the fire and assisted with creating a fireline on the "left flank" while the Washington County teams worked on the "south side" and connecting the 2 sides together. Fire activity was rather "touchy" at times due as the weather conditions were very dry and the increased wind didn't help. Units operated into the night to contain the fire ahead of the incoming rain.

I would like to thank the departments who were there and once again to the Washington County wildland teams for their continued support, and a huge congrats the Clear Spring VFD for becoming an official "Wildland 4".
