This one actually depends on where you live in New Jersey! 🍂

If you’re in North Jersey, Stefanie recommends making the switch in late September to early October. Remember, September can still feel like summer!

But if you’re in Central or South Jersey, you can hold off a little longer. 😉 Down here, we get to enjoy local summer—a little extra beach time, warmer weather and plenty of opportunities to keep wearing those summer clothes.

How do you keep the after-school routine from becoming chaos?

Honestly, for me, it’s all about having a few things that are just non-negotiable.

The minute my kids walk in the door, they unpack their backpacks. I want the papers out, I want to see the assignments, I want the lunch bag emptied, and I want to see what they actually ate.

And if they come in saying, “I’m hungry,” I’m like, Okay… here are the cucumbers you didn’t eat at lunch. We’re going to start there before we start digging through the pantry for something crunchy.

And we still have a bedtime routine—even with my daughter in eighth grade.

Wash your face. Brush your teeth. Shower. Pick out your clothes for tomorrow. Get yourself prepared.

Because that’s really what we’re teaching them: how to prepare.

The more you make these things part of the routine, the less they have to think about them. Eventually, they just become habits.

School nights? We have a routine.

Saturday night? Go for it. Stay up later. Have fun.

But during the school week, having that structure makes a HUGE difference.
