This post popped up, and reminded me to tell you about ANOTHER milestone anniversary.
The Rehabilitation Act of 1973 was passed 50, yes f-i-f-t-y, years ago in .... you guessed it ----- 1973!
October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. It's an opportunity to shine a spotlight on all the ways that businesses and people who have a disability can put their heads together at work so EVERYBODY wins 🏆.
I'm speaking to groups about this year's theme "Access and Equity" to help celebrate 🍾 😀 😄 🥳.
Thirty years 7/26 the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law. I was there, and am proud to say I was involved in the work that created it.
Before ADA there were no curbcuts, reserved parking spaces, event interpreters, ramps, lever door handles, voice technology, closed captioning, communication in employment, the list goes on....
There are many many GREAT ideas for celebrating the diversity that is disability!!! If you need help please contact me...here is a picture of me as a little girl, with my little hook:)
