What do healthcare facilities need more than other key response facilities? Why are they required to meet such standards ?

Most people go to a healthcare center or hospital and take for granted that systems are backed up, or air and water quality are normal. Their utility systems are redundant because of strict Environment of Care standards outlined by Joint Commission and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

Also, water and air quality are required to be under specific management plans due to these regulatory protocols. When planning for emergencies, it is crucial to have these components rolled into your Emergency Operations and Business Continuity Plans !!

Great plans sometimes go south, so always test them !! Planning for a bunny invasion under your deck with wire and lattice was a great plan. However, the Bunnies were smaller and more agile than expected, and able to pe*****te the defenses ! 🤦‍♂️

Hazard Vulnerability Assessments are required for Healthcare Facilities for Joint Commission and CMS Standards. 'Bunny Invasion' is not one of those hazards for a health care site, but a deck at your house, most certainly!!😉🙄

No, we haven't been sleeping, just working behind the scenes on materials for upcoming plans training and scenario role play.

Since High School football just ended, and it is College Bowl Season, it brings the common question- Does your athletic facility have a shelter in place and evacuation plan ? Do the staff and volunteers know the plan and how to assist?
