Some organizations believe they are saving money by installing fake security cameras, or posting signage indicating their premises is monitored by video surveillance without actually having cameras installed... this approach might save a few dollars in the short term; however, it could end up costing significantly more in the long term.
Not only are those methods creating a false sense of security for the organization, but they are potentially opening up the organization to significant liability and lawsuits.
Case law exists where plaintiffs have successfully sued for substantial awards due to organizations having broken cameras that they neglected to fix, having fake security cameras, or having posted signage without actually having video surveillance.
