Over Half of EI Children are NOT Receiving Their Services!
Dear Early Intervention Supporter,
In less than four weeks the future of our Early Intervention Program will be decided by the State Legislature. After decades of stagnant rates in the face of rising costs and inflation, the Governor still has recommended NO INCREASE in the Early Intervention Program.
EI rates are less in 2023 than they were in 2009. As a result, nearly two thousand rendering providers have left the EI program in the past four years, and 65 agencies have been forced out of business, largely because of inadequate revenue. The State Legislature needs to step in and do what the Governor refuses to do, which is to provide a rate increase in the state budget. Even the NY State Comptroller weighed in last week on the lack of providers necessary to serve all the needs of our children, finding that over half of EI children did not receive all types of services to which they were entitled!
The Legislature will respond if they hear from you and enough of your colleagues and friends. For them to care enough to amend the Governor’s budget to include an EI Rate increase the Legislature needs to know that YOU CARE! The Department of Health’s very own Early Intervention Coordinating Council (EICC) has passed a resolution calling for an 11% rate increase THIS YEAR, and we agree. We know that without a rate increase even more therapists will leave the program, even more agencies will close, and even fewer children will be served. That would make the current devastating situation even more tragic.
But you can do something about that today! Simply respond here to email key State Assembly Members and Senators urging them to act before it’s too late. If enough of us do this, we will win. We will save the EI Program, and we will rebuild and strengthen the crucial supports needed by thousands of children. PLEASE respond to this call to action TODAY. Just a few seconds of your time will help to SAVE THE EARLY INTERVENTION PROGRAM.
