At approximately 11:23 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, Midland Police attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 4800 block of Anetta. The vehicle fled for several blocks before coming to a stop in the 4700 block of Comanche at which point the driver – later identified as Victor Mata Villarreal - exited the vehicle and fired rounds from a rifle at an officer.
The officer returned fire, and Villarreal fled the scene in the vehicle. The vehicle was subsequently found abandoned a short distance from the scene. Despite an intensive search, Villarreal was not located. The officer was not injured in the incident.
Villarreal is wanted for Attempted Capital Murder of a Peace Officer.
