A beautiful tribute to one of our patients we had the privilege to work with through hospice. Here is what his wife has to say about the impact of music therapy.

Interestingly, when I was there for sessions, he appeared to have little to no memory problems. This was because music brought everything back for him. He sang all of the lyrics, reminisced and shared memories associated with the songs we sang, and was more alert and attentive than any other time during the week. Music woke him up inside, and it was an honor and a privilege to witness its power.

He hums all day long—music constantly moving through him.

In this space, his music is heard, echoed, and held. I follow his sounds, his timing, his shifts. We build something together—predictable enough to feel safe, flexible enough to meet him exactly where he is.

Sometimes connection looks like eye contact and smiles.
Sometimes it looks like rocking, humming, turning away while staying engaged.

All of it counts. All of it is communication.

This is what music therapy makes possible. 🎶

This looks like play—because it is!

While we’re counting 1-2-3 and tossing an egg shaker into a drum, so many important skills are taking shape: anticipation, communication, sensory tolerance, and choice-making. When she signs “more,” she’s sharing her voice in a way that feels natural and joyful (then of course she follows it up with the actual vocal outburst of joy!).

In music therapy, play isn’t a break from learning—it’s how learning happens. Through music, children feel engaged, capable, and excited to participate, and their brains make the connections that support real growth.

It’s a beautiful process, and we just can’t get enough of it!

Welcome to our new music therapy intern, Anna Gray!

Anna is a Music Therapy Intern currently completing her studies at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods college before graduating this spring. After earning a bachelor’s degree in music from Brigham Young University-Idaho, she began to pursue music therapy to combine her musical knowledge with her desire to help others. Anna enjoys making music with violin, piano, and guitar and loves to see and learn about the many ways that music helps people.

She looks forward to expanding her knowledge as she works towards board certification and is thrilled to join Harmony Music Therapy as an intern. When Anna is not studying, she enjoys walking outside, doing puzzles, and watching sports with her family.

Harmony is a place where kids are met with curiosity, patience, and music.

Where being yourself isn’t just allowed—it’s celebrated.

Exactly who they are is enough. 🥁✨

🎶 Music Brings Life — Even at Life’s End 🎶
In hospice, the smallest moments often become the most meaningful. Music therapy offers patients a chance to reconnect with themselves beyond the illness, the pain, or the limitations of the moment.

Making music with our patients helps them feel “more like themselves” again. Music revives joy, identity, and connection during a time that can feel heavy and uncertain. It can bring comfort, spark memories, ease anxiety, and create space for expression when words are hard to find.

In hospice care, music therapy doesn’t just support the end of life—it brings life to each remaining moment.

We are honored to walk alongside patients and families in this sacred space. 💛🎵

When work feels like play 🎶✨
Our Harmony Music Therapy team took on the Twinkle, Twinkle relay challenge on the floor piano… and yes, it was just as fun as it looks! 😄🎹

We love creating a space that’s warm, inviting, musical, and full of joy—for our clients and our team. The floor piano is always a hit, and today we couldn’t resist giving it a try ourselves!

Come make music, move, laugh, and explore with us at Harmony 💛🎵

✨What’s on our music therapy cart?✨

Every session at the behavioral hospital looks different—and that’s the beauty of it. We bring a whole world of musical options so patients can connect, express, and explore in the way that feels right for them. 🎶💛

🪘 Drums for grounding, releasing stored tension, and feeling stable in the moment.

🔵 Lummi sticks to engage bilateral movement, cross midline, activate both sides of the brain, and prepare for deeper therapeutic work.

🎸 Guitars, ukuleles, and keyboard equipped with color-coded systems and the Chord Buddy so patients can pick them up and play their favorite songs right away—boosting confidence, lowering stress, and building camaraderie.

🎤 Lyric sheets & songwriting prompts for reflection, insight, and meaningful discussion.

🎧 Emotional regulation playlist worksheets for building coping skills they can take with them outside the session.

🎨 Art supplies for drawing to music, supporting relaxation and offering a visual way to connect with the experience.

Every item has a purpose. Every option gives patients another way to show up, express themselves, and feel supported.

Music therapy meets people where they are—and we’re honored to bring these tools into their healing space. 💛🎶
