The Boozé Floozé Vineyard

I'm sad to say this is likely the last season at The Boozé Floozé Vineyard, but definitely not my last vineyard. The plan is to either start another one here, or in Australia, in the next couple of years. Huge dreams can come with huge risks and huge losses. I'm proud of myself for setting out years ago to start a vineyard ... AND FREAKING DOING IT. At times, I questioned my sanity, but after wandering through the vines this past weekend and seeing the literal fruits of my labor, I'm grateful for being a little crazy. I'm choosing my happiness and the consequences of choosing that means losing the vineyard. Last years drought and the well drying up and inability to water the vines felt like a death sentence for the vineyard. Turns out everything came back twice as strong this year. We grabbed a few Prairie Star clusters and a few Sabrevois clusters and made some grape juice this weekend. Here are some pictures of this beautiful beast 😍

It's been a really hard year on the vines with the drought. Very little growth this year. Our well dried up in July and we can't get a new one drilled until the end of September. Minimal water usage in the house and no way to water the vines. Everyone is hanging on, but we could use some rain dances and prayers for the tiny little fighters ❤️

Everyone's growing like crazy! Could use a little rain 🌧️ Not much pruning was needed. Just nurturing the vines, going through and making sure the sleeves are free of weeds and debris from last year. Training the vines to grow upwards by helping to guide the cordons with bamboo stakes and training tape. Just trying to give them what they need to succeed 😉 it's incredibly peaceful and beautiful out there. A wonderful labor of love 💕

The University of Minnesota plays a huge role in the ability to have successful vineyards this far north. Without cold hardy varieties and hybrids there would be no Boozé Floozé. Vineyard that is. I'd still be drinking 🤣 We've been leaning towards newer and less popular varieties. Perhaps the Clarion will find it's way here.

The University of Minnesota's Horticultural Research Center has released a new cold-hardy wine grape called Clarion.

I don't typically use my business pages for advertising other things than my business or as a platform for other agendas. However, most of my regulars know one of my biggest passions is animals. One of the things I love most about having my own business is being able to take the time off to volunteer and do charity work. This week was my annual trip down to Texas for Ruff Start Rescue, located in Princeton MN, to gather a bus load of dogs and bring them back to begin a new life up here. We(my sister and I) had the pleasure of bringing a dog down with us to Dallas to be reunited with her owner this time around and are now en route back to Minnesota with 33 dogs, some still looking for their forever homes. I am a big believer in being kind and doing what I can to make this world a beautiful place for everyone. It was five years ago today that we moved to the Boozé Floozé "place." 🤣 The overgrowth of the farm, that hadn't been worked for over two decades, stood over six feet tall. Two weeks after we moved in we rented our first tractor and began the clearing process. It's been a long haul with years worth of unexpected delays, but this year was worth it! Looking forward to watching the grape babies grow! Fingers crossed they make it through the winter.🤞🍇
