At Alene Candles, we know that a clean, consistent and safe burn is essential to creating products consumers love—and brands trust. That’s why every candle undergoes rigorous testing throughout the development process.

In our testing facilities, we can:
🔥 Burn test up to 1,500 candles each day to evaluate performance and consistency.
❄️ Conduct stability testing that includes freeze-thaw cycles, fade resistance evaluations and accelerated aging to ensure candles maintain their quality over time.

Have you ever heard of the terms “cold throw” and “hot throw?” They’re both important to a candle’s fragrance—but they aren’t the same thing.

Cold throw is the scent a candle gives off when it isn’t burning. It’s the fragrance you smell when you remove the lid or walk past the candle on a shelf. Some candles emit a stronger cold throw than a hot throw, which is good if you want a continuous scent.

Hot throw is the fragrance released by a burning candle. As the wax melts and warms, it disperses scent throughout the room, creating the aroma you experience during use. A strong hot throw can cover a larger area with aroma.

Creating the perfect balance between cold throw and hot throw takes careful testing and a little bit of magic. Wax type, fragrance oil, wick selection and even the candle vessel all work together to ensure a candle smells just as good burning as it does sitting on the shelf.

We’re proud of the Alene team members who recently participated in the Playhouse Build hosted by Habitat for Humanity Greater Nashua Manchester. This inspiring community event brings together businesses, volunteers and local organizations to build children’s playhouses and raise funds for Habitat’s affordable housing and Critical Home Repair programs, which give local families and homeowners safe, stable places to call home.

This year, our team helped design, build and finish two playhouses: Alina’s Kitchen Playhouse for Make-A-Wish New Hampshire and the Fairy/Garden Playhouse for Marguerite's Place, Inc. We were honored to receive the “Playhouse with the Most Heart” award for Alina’s Kitchen and the “Most Whimsical Playhouse” award for the Fairy/Garden Playhouse.

The playhouse kits were built by students in the Alvirne High School Building Trades Program, making this project a great example of what can happen when businesses, schools and nonprofits come together to make a difference!
