TR Common Passenger Vehicle NFPA 1006 2021 edition Chapter 8

Prerequisites
Candidates must successfully pass Introduction to Technical Rescue Course (FRC 1200) PRIOR to taking TR Common Passenger Vehicle (FRC 1207) or TR Common Passenger Vehicle Awareness (FRC 1208). *Firefighters OR Technical Rescuers certified PRIOR to the 2021 edition will not need this requirement.
Delivery Options
There are two options to complete TR Common Passenger Vehicle certification:

1. Take TR Common Passenger Vehicle (FRC 1207) - Recommended Hours: 42 / Maximum Hours: 50
*Candidates are required to pass all three exams (Awareness, Operations, and Technician) to receive credit for the FRC 1207 series. If any of the three exams are failed, candidate will not receive any credit for FRC 1207, FRC 1208, FRC 1209, or FRC 1210.

OR

2. Take the three separate courses:
*Courses must be successfully completed in order (FRC 1208 -> FRC 1209 -> FRC 1210)
- TR Common Passenger Vehicle Awareness (FRC 1208) - Recommended Hours: 9 / Maximum Hours: 11
- TR Common Passenger Vehicle Operations (FRC 1209) - Recommended Hours: 15 / Maximum Hours: 18
- TR Common Passenger Vehicle Technician (FRC 1210) - Recommended Hours: 18 / Maximum Hours: 22

Green Creek Fire Rescue is hosting the Common Vehicle Extrication series. Awareness and Operations will run together and then practicals and test and then the Technician class will follow with practicals and test.

We are heartbroken to share that Firefighter Andrew Brokes died in the line of duty this morning while searching for victims inside the building at 410 Marly Drive.

Firefighter Brokes, who joined the Durham Fire Department on May 5, 2025, served the Durham community with dedication, courage, and a deep commitment to the residents of the Bull City.

“This is a heartbreaking loss for our department, the family, and the entire community,” said Durham Fire Chief Robert J. Zoldos II. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones and his colleagues, and we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during this unimaginably difficult time. The department is standing with and supporting his family in every possible way.”

Two other firefighters were injured during the incident and were taken to Duke Medical Center. Both have received care and are expected to make full recoveries.

This loss is felt across our entire department. Firefighters step into unpredictable situations every day in service to others, and Firefighter Brokes embodied that calling with honor.

We know our community is grieving alongside us. If you wish to share your condolences or messages of support, they will be received with gratitude by our department and by those who knew and loved Firefighter Brokes.

In the coming days, we will share more information about how we will honor his service and support the firefighters involved in this incident.

Praying for Durham Fire today.

This morning, a Durham (NC) firefighter was killed at a building fire in the 400 block of Marly Road. Two other firefighters were injured but are expected to be okay. No other additional or official details have been released, reports WRAL.

We're compiling our information, including late-arrival scene pics as well as radio traffic. Google for latest news reports, or monitor official social sites, for now.

To all my Fire Rescue and EMS folks big changes coming to EVD and the Driver Operator Certifications. Get you classes in and training done now.

Today, we welcomed the great folks from VFIS who delivered the new Train the Trainer Driving update to over 35 responders from across the Western NC region. We are anticipating major changes to the entire Driver Operator certifications next year, so finish out your D/O credentials just in case.

Cleveland County Mourns the Loss of Paramedic/Field Training Officer Ashley Moore

Shelby, North Carolina — It is with sincere regret and heavy hearts that Cleveland County announces the Line of Duty death of Ms. Ashley Moore, Paramedic/Field Training Officer who was killed in the Line of Duty as the result of a traffic collision in Gaston County, North Carolina on Monday, July 6th, 2026.

Ms. Ashley Moore, Paramedic/Field Training Officer served with Cleveland County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for nine (9) years. She exemplified the highest standards of the EMS profession and dedication to our community.

“Our entire Cleveland County team is grieving the loss of one of our own," said Thomas McNeilly, Emergency Medical Services Director.

"Our immediate priority is supporting Ashley’s family and our first responders during this tragedy. We ask the public to keep their families and our EMS staff in their prayers," stated David B. Cotton, County Manager.

Out of respect for the family’s privacy, no further information or details will be released at this time. An official update regarding memorial services will be provided in the coming days.

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of retired Chief Gary Brown.

Chief Brown served our community honorably for a number of decades at Blue Ridge Fire and Rescue. He loved his fire department, his family and friends and will be missed by all.

Chief Brown started in the fire service as a Junior Fireman. He quickly rose through the ranks as an adult, serving as either chief or Assistant Chief for most of his career.

He was also the first full-time chief at Blue Ridge for many years where he retired from in 2017, serving briefly on the board of directors after that.

Chief was a passionate individual, had a big heart for others and loved to have fun as was evident by his playful personality, he was never a stranger to "cutting up".

As many of us mourn the loss of Chief Brown, we ask that you keep his family, fire department family and his many friends in your prayers.

On behalf of all of us at Blue Ridge Fire and Rescue we thank you Chief Brown, for everything you have done for all of us.
