What happens when your utility costs go up — and you have no say in it?
Wyoming homeowners are seeing firsthand just how quickly electricity costs can change.
According to a recent Cowboy State Daily article, the transmission portion of Torrington’s wholesale power bill increased 189% in June 2026 compared with June 2025 after a change in the regional power provider. The city estimates the increase could mean approximately $800,000 in additional annual costs. Some Torrington residents interviewed reported seeing their monthly electric bills jump by roughly $70–$100.
The 189% figure is specific to Torrington’s transmission costs, but the situation raises a much broader question: how much control do you have over what you’ll pay for electricity in the future?
You can control how much electricity you use. You can't control what the utility decides to charge for it.
Owning solar gives homeowners and businesses another option by allowing them to generate some of their own electricity onsite.
Every property is different, so the first step is simply finding out whether the numbers make sense.
