Learn in My Shoes has created a new survey. 👟

✔️What will it be used for? The data will be analyzed and compiled into an impact report to use for our advocacy. This will help us share a bigger picture about how families are affected by the way special education is currently funded.

✔️Who will see the report? It will be shared with state legislators, the press, and on social media. We may also share any given quotes or submitted pictures.

Many people are concerned about the new federal work requirements for Medicaid. The WI Department of Health Services (DHS) has launched a new website and screening tool for Wisconsinites to learn about these new work requirements. 📢 Important Update for BadgerCare Plus Members

New federal requirements are expected to affect some adults enrolled in BadgerCare Plus (BC+) beginning in 2027.

Under the new law, some members ages 19–64 may need to meet certain requirements—such as working, attending school, participating in job training, or volunteering, to maintain their health care coverage.

For families of children with disabilities or complex medical needs, now may be a good time to explore with your CLTS Support & Service Coordinator whether your child qualifies for Medicaid through the Katie Beckett Program—and learn how BC+ members, and parents as caregivers to children with disabilities (of any age), may qualify for an exception to this new rule.

To help families and community members understand these upcoming changes, Wisconsin DHS will be hosting an informational webinar to discuss:

✅ Who may be affected
✅ Exemptions and special circumstances
✅ What activities may count toward the requirement
✅ Timelines and next steps
✅ Exemptions from the requirement (such as Katie Beckett)

Our Feed the Kids Program is coming back, providing free lunches to children throughout Milwaukee County all summer long!

Each weekday, we will serve approximately 600 lunches and provide a welcoming space where kids can connect, build friendships, and enjoy a nutritious meal.

This Collaborative will also provide input to shape the Milwaukee County Caregiver Support Program activities and advocacy priorities.

Applications are now open for the WI Disability Policy Fellowship! The Fellowship Program is open to individuals with developmental disabilities and family members of people with developmental disabilities who are committed to disability rights advocacy. Individuals with experience with state or local advocacy, strong communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. The Fellowship will last one year starting in September 2026 until August 2027. Fellows will work full-time, 40 hours a week and will receive an annual stipend of $63,000. Each Fellow will be placed at either a state agency, legislative office, or advocacy organization.
