10 EASY WAYS TO HELP A MUSICAL ARTIST

The world needs more art right now! It also needs more people supporting the artists making art. Here are a handful of things a person can do to help a new, local, or underground musical artist. Of course there are many more things one can do to help. Most of the things on this list involve very little effort, and can be done from the comfort of one's home or in one's hometown.
~~~
1. Attend a live performance.
Invite friends. Take videos and photos. Post them to your pages and websites. Tag people. This not only helps the artist, but helps the venue and the whole community as well.
2. Buy a physical album or piece of merchandise.
Nothing feels better to a musical artist than when a listener wants to take their art home with them. The direct financial support is important, but the reassurance from a new fan that an artist has positively affected them enough to spend their hard earned cash is priceless.
3. Buy a digital album online.
This is important: Post a positive review on the site you got it from. Fan reviews can mean the difference between that particular site promoting a song or overlooking it.
4. Sign up to an email list.
This is REALLY important. You may think it annoying to get another newsletter, but for an artist trying to connect with you, it can truly mean a lot. Also, please do OPEN THE EMAIL. It's nice for an artist to see high open rates from fans and friends.
5. Join the street team.
This goes a long way, especially if the artist tours to your city from far away. If you favorite artist is so new or underground that they don't even have a street team, start one. Or just volunteer to help hang a few posters when they come to your town. Refer the artist to other venues. Send the artist info on local radio DJs or music journalists. Just talk them up by word of mouth and tell your friends at school and your co-workers at work about them.
6. Buy one song online.
Purchase one file. It's just one. If it's Friday, buy it on Bandcamp to avoid fees, and you can also pick your high quality file type. (Don't forget to review it). Play it in public spaces and share it as much as you can. Use it in your videos and stories.
7. Add a song to an online playlist.
Adding songs to playlists helps the song get noticed by others and played more elsewhere. Also SHAZAM songs from the artist. Those stats are also trackable.
8. Stream music online a lot.
Pick one song on your online streaming service or jukebox and put that song on repeat when you go to sleep, or are away from the computer. Spotify won't pay an artist for a song that receives less than 1000 spins (and once it does will only pay them $0.03) so keep the tunes playing.
9. Follow and have fun on social media.
Contrary to what all the super cool "I don't go on social media" folks say, this is actually a very cool thing to do. Subscribe on YouTube. Follow on TikTok and Instagram. Interact with pages. Share things. Heart emojis are cool but commenting actual words is a lot cooler.
10. RSVP to events.
Even if it's a "maybe." Even if you know you can't go, click maybe anyway to contribute to the event's visibility. This is the bare minimum ask. It's just a click.
"Ireland's government has approved the permanent implementation of its Basic Income for the Arts (BIA) program, a landmark initiative that will provide a weekly stipend of €325 to artists and creative workers, starting in 2026.
The BIA, originally a pilot program, is designed to provide financial stability and allow artists to focus on their work without the pressure of immediate commercial viability.
Eligible artists will receive a weekly payment of €325. The plan is backed by a €1.5 billion allocation to the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport for 2026, which is an increase of €131 million from the previous year.
The primary goal is to address the financial instability often associated with creative work, allowing artists to concentrate on their art. The pilot program, which supported over 2,000 artists, was found to have a positive impact on participants' well-being, practice development, and financial security."
Deerhoof leaving Spotify
"AI battle tech is clearly emerging as the hot new big ticket item for the super-rich. It’s increasingly clear that the military and police exist primarily as the security detail for the billionaire class. The more of the killing you can get computers to do, the better your bottom line."
In addition to being the CEO of Spotify, Daniel Ek is also the chairman of Helsing, a German defense technology company that develops AI software designed to enhance military weapons and equipment. Earlier this month Helsing said they raised nearly $700 million in a bumper new round of funding, with...
