Spent the week cleaning up this pond area, it had atleast a dozen large cottonwood trees that had grown up around the waterline. A timber buyer cut down the trees a few years ago and the stumps were left behind. This week we rented a large excavator and removed all the stumps and roots re graded the banks and top of the levee so it had positive grade and the rainfall ran into the pond not the surrounding timber. Removed 4 large trees that were growing.close to the pond area, cleaned up some.debris then re shaped the whole area grading it out and then seeding it just in time for the rains later this week. This project has been a long time coming for the land owner and I am very happy to have been part of it throughout the process. Hopefully they get many more years of enjoyment out of this reclaimed pond with minimal maintenance moving forward.

Did some continued work on a property, mulched a third and final portion of the timber. Opening up the understory, the goal for this property is 40-50% sunlight reaching the ground. Next step is cutting down some more undesireable trees, and some final clean up work.

Late night last night and an early start this morning, walking a property in Southern IL helping a friend spray invasive vegetation per his timber management plan with the NRCS/USDA office. Cleaning up the property lines that had been neglected for years by the previous owners. The honeysuckle encroached heavily, I ran the forestry mulcher through it and found the fence line again. Then pushed all the devris into a pile to burn at a later date leaving the cleaned area ready for seeding.

Cleaned up dead trees and logs off a hillside I mulched a couple weeks ago. Still have some thinning of larger undesirable trees to do, eventually this will be a nice Oak Hickory hillside with plenty of light getting to the ground.

Spent the last 2 days cleaning up this 5 acre hillside timber. It was steep and rough so the pace was slow, the trees were tight and the understory was thick with a lot of previously girdled trees laying on the ground. This is the 1st phase of cleaning this timber, the next step will be to girdle or hack and sq**rt the undesireable trees that couldn't be mulched. Opening up the tree canopy allowing sunlight to reach the ground and promote native browse and forbes to grow. The timber plan calls for a substantial thinning focusing on leaving the Oaks, Hickory, and Walnut with a few other species as well. Followed up with Prescribed fires to controll invase and unwanted regrowth. This will be a fun project to see take shape throughout the years.
