What do you see in the 2025 USAging Chartbook?
I see a lot of dedicated work by Area Agencies on Aging nationwide, but I also see how ageist assumptions can remain embedded in the system. Not in intent, but in the structure of how needs and solutions are framed, even within systems designed to support older adults.

The Chartbook documents persistent unmet demand for in-home and caregiver services, along with the growing involvement of Area Agencies on Aging in housing instability and crisis navigation. Yet proactive home modification and Accessible Design are not emphasized first-line prevention strategies.

Only 55% of AAAs report offering a home modification program.

Most interventions are categorized as services that respond AFTER a fall, caregiver strain, or housing risk emerge. The result is a system that funds consequences over prevention, reinforcing the idea that aging is synonymous with decline.

The report doesn’t say this explicitly, but the sequencing of interventions reveals it.
