What is a dinner party?
"A dinner party is a familiar ritual in most homes. The guests arrive. The table is set with plates that the woman of the house may have decorated with softly-painted flowers sunk deeply into the glaze.
The plates are thoughtfully arranged on a table which is covered with a table cloth that the woman might have sewn, carefully embroidering the edges with small scallops whose fine detail can easily be overlooked. “
This excerpt from Judy Chicago's The Dinner Party preface, sets a place for unsung women in history (including Salonnière Natalie Clifford Barney) while also making a “powerful argument for the importance of these traditionally female artistic practices, which have been unfairly relegated to the realm of craft”.

House as Hostess?
What role does a building play in the art of hosting? Natalie Clifford Barney, a salonnière in Paris in the early 1900s, held her Friday salon at 20 Rue Jacob.
The space and it’s guests are immortalized in a spatialized sketch by André Rouveyre, an “If these walls could talk” moment.
Given our fascination with anthropomorphizing buildings, our Salonnière Paper 01 dives deeper in to Ms. Barney’s story her The Temple of Friendship.

"You And I Are Earth 1661"

One of the goals of this project is to view trends through the larger arc of time in efforts to bring context, appreciation for craft and perhaps challenge the aesthetic churn of modern times.
"You And I Are Earth 1661" shows how domestic items became vessels for time, a calendar of sorts.
