Tech jobs saw a welcome increase last month, after the huge layoff wave in recent months, and are expected to continue to grow throughout the year.

This growth was primarily in positions related to technology services, software development, and cloud infrastructure, with IT support specialists leading the pack in percentage of openings. Unsurprisingly, jobs requiring AI skills accounted for nearly half of all job postings in the emerging technologies sub-category.

With the demand for machine learning and AI engineers, as well as related skillsets, only continuing to grow in recent years, it brings up an interesting discussion around the value of the human element in this equation. And more importantly, AI replacing jobs across sectors as many fear.

Tech employment in March saw a return to growth, and it’s expected to continue for the rest of the year.

Studies are showing even hybrid return-to-office mandates are having a harmful impact on employee satisfaction, productivity, and retention.

Despite many companies implementing these policies, they just cannot seem to stick. Whether it is a long commute, high gas prices, or kids/pets at home, these mandates are not improving performance and productivity enough to be worth it in the eyes of a lot of the workforce. In fact, many prefer their home setup now due to technical capability and not having the proper equipment at the office.

However, there is also tremendous value in connecting with colleagues in person, as well as lost resources with vacant office-spaces.

When companies enact rigid return-to-office policies — even if only for certain days of the week — it can not only result in reduced worker satisfaction and productivity but also harm employee retention.

It's looking like US Manufacturing is on the rise again, with the ISM gauge last month topping 50 for the first time since September 2022! While this may have some impact on Federal Reserve rate cuts, this is overall great news and showing a growing economy.

Big news from Microsoft yesterday, as they introduce a global offering for Office 365 excluding business chat Teams.

In this push for globally consistent licensing, a standalone version of Teams will also be available. This should allow for more choice when it comes to chat service providers, for companies who prefer alternatives like Slack or Zoom, but still would like the Office 365 functionality.

Despite this, analysts say it shouldn't have any real impact on growth trajectory for Microsoft.
