You've probably heard too many times that showing vulnerability is like flames to a moth: audiences can't get enough!

We've all seen a TED Talk; they all start with the speaker telling a personal story, it catches us, and then we might end up learning a thing or two at the end of their speech.

Learning where the stop-sign is between vulnerability and senseless oversharing requires a few tactics, however. The latest episode of Crazy Good Talks is all about navigating the edge of tasteful, moving storytelling -- and plain old TMI.

Tapping into a personal moment that connects to the purpose of your point will ignite a connection with your listener or reader, but you have to be clear about the story you're sharing and why you're bringing it up; otherwise, it could turn into an awkward moment of oversharing.

Listen to examples on how to actually do this and more by walking the fine line of vulnerability in Episode 19 of Crazy Good Talks:

Financial Professionals! I am humbled and honored by the response we've received to my guest appearance on Michael Kitces' Financial Advisor Success podcast last week. Many emails have come in saying, "Thank you for the tangible strategies on how to be more emotionally engaging in my 1:1 meetings."

Here are just a few of the strategies Michael and I discuss in this episode:
• Worry less about if people "get" what you're saying and focus more on making an emotional connection
• How to take content that is widely accessible to all advisors and present it in a way to drive your prospects to a specific action
• Why every financial advisor can learn to be a highly effective and emotionally compelling communicator (even for those that struggle with public speaking)
• What question to ask prospective clients to get "into their hearts instead of their heads"
• How to create trust and empathy by sharing specific and targeted business stories

And more!

No matter your business or the purpose of your talk, you need to be relatable to your audience. If they see you as "special" they will not think they can learn from you.

Being appropriately vulnerable, where people can see themselves in your journey, lets them feel you can help them on theirs.

Episode 19 is not short on practical advice on how to become vulnerable without oversharing and more. Stream it now on:

There are a lot of out there, many of them ridiculous. But for me, is not one of them – and it shouldn’t be for you either!

I preach all day about how to connect and communicate with your clients and customers in a way that creates a crazy big impact – and one of the best ways to do that is to truly know and understand your customers, and I’m talking about more than just at the transactional level.

Who are they?
What makes them tick?
What keeps them up at night?
Do you know their pain points?
Do you reach out and get to know them on a deeper level?
Do you ask them questions?
Do you reach out after the sale?

I’d love to hear more about how you are getting to know your customers and clients better. Please share in the comments!

The point of being vulnerable in a business setting is to help your audience become more comfortable with you.

When you know you have a service that is life-changing, and you're clear you have your clients' best interests at heart, you need to use communication strategies that will allow people to open up and connect with you. Vulnerability is a key that helps open that door.
