Your baby isn’t “supposed” to self-soothe, because, spoiler, they can’t.
Not at 6 weeks.
Not at 6 months.
Not really even at 2 or 3 YEARS old.

Human babies (and toddlers!) co-regulate with their caregivers.
Their nervous systems literally borrow ours until theirs matures around age 3–4.
This is biology, not behavior. 💛

So if someone suggests your tiny human should “just learn to self-soothe,” remember:
If your baby could self-soothe, they’d also help you plan your Thanksgiving dinner.
And let’s be honest… even WE don’t want to do that.

Your job isn’t to make your baby independent.
Your job is to be their safe place until their brain develops the wiring to do it alone.
Connection now = resilience later.

🧠💛 Save this for the next time someone gives you outdated advice.
And share it with a tired parent who needs the reminder that their baby is HUMAN, not a robot.

Your Brain is healing too.🧠💕

Postpartum isn't just about diapers and sleep, it's also a season of neurological transformation.

Recent MRI research shows that oxytocin (the love hormone and hormone of bonding) helps reshape your brain after birth. It boosts memory, reduces depression risk and strengthens emotional connection.

But it's not just a about breastfeeding. Oxytocin rises when you feel safe, loved, supported and seen. That means the people around you MATTER.

This is why I offer my new moms groups to all my doula clients, to connect at least 2x/month to extend doula support well into your postpartum.

So if you feel forgetful, foggy or overwhelmed, it's not failure. It's biology. It's your brain healing itself.

🌟Your recovery isn't just physical. It's emotional. It's hormonal. It's neurological. Let's give it the care it deserves and come join me at a moms group.🫂

🌷 Happy Day-After Mother’s Day 🌷

To all the new mamas I’ve walked with this year—
You brought a baby earthside. You stretched your heart, your body, and your mind in powerful, quiet ways. So much of what you’re doing right now is invisible to the world—but I see you.

I see your effort to care for your baby while trying to stay connected to yourself. I see your courage, your love, your trying again. You are the best mom for your baby—no one else could do it like you do. 💛

If yesterday felt tender, weird, or not like the celebration you hoped for, that’s okay too. Your baby doesn’t know what day it is—they just know they love you.

Whether you’re snuggling close or passing baby to loving arms so you can rest—today, and every day beyond "Mother's Day" is yours to keep being the amazing mom you are to the family you created. You are so loved.

With a big hug,
Alexia 🤍

Today, I want to take a moment to honor my father-in-law, a man who left an incredible mark on our family. He was a good man who raised another good man—my husband. Watching him love his wife with unwavering devotion set an example for my husband, one that I see reflected in how deeply I am loved every single day.

His excitement and joy each time we announced a new baby would join our family was always a favorite moment in my pregnancies. He would light up with pride and anticipation, reminding us how precious and meaningful life is.

After his stroke on Jan 1st of 2022, there was a lot of hand holding, expressions of how much he loved me, my husband and our children, and often was lost in past moments of life when his wife was pregnant. A beautiful demonstration of how much he loved his family, and all the babies he held.

As we grieve his passing, I hold onto the legacy he left: love that is steadfast, a family that is cherished, and a life filled with moments that truly mattered. We miss him deeply but know he is in the presence of the Almighty and know we will see him again when the Lord calls us home one day.

The honoring and celebration of his life is this coming week. All are welcomed, including all your babies!!! He would have absolutely loved that!

Welcome to the world neno!!
This sweet arrived to the world on one of those 80 degree October days, and knowing mom's desire for a water birth, I kept my shorts on in the birthing room. At the end I remembered why I typically wear black pants.😂 A bit of blood splatter onto my legs when assisting mom out of the tub. I sometimes forget that birth can be messy. My brain focuses on so many other things during a birth, it isn't until I have amniotic fluid in my shoes, vernix on my arms or something else found on my clothing before I place them in the washer that I'm reminded of this fun fact.
This family has welcomed this second little one the same month their first was born, both around a full moon. One on land, and one in water, both magical.
Congrats dear ones!!

Welcome to the world Neno!
Patient endurance are the words that come to mind with this birth story.
Oh this sweet family has patiently endured so much. From trying to conceive to all the motions of IVF to miscarriages to finally having a little one stay to moving through severe nausea the whole pregnancy to an induction to finally ✨️finally✨️ getting to meet their baby.
Patiently this mamá endured with strength each labor and pushing transition to bring her baby into the world.
This was one of those stories where I went home and cried ever so often the night and day after. Cried in joy and awe of God's power over beautiful families like this one, as well as how amazingly tough women are built to move through all the things to bring babies into the world.
Congratulations dear ones!! Praying for all the blessings in your postpartum. 🫶🏽

Welcome to the world Neno!!💙💙💙

Did you know that birth doulas work secretly behind the scenes to set up a network of backup doula support for each of our clients? Yep!

This family is a co-doula's client. Once labor began, backup support is what this birth needed.

I'm always so grateful when families are open to the change of plans, and welcome me to their laboring and birthing space.

Bum jiggles happened, CST to release tight fascia, position changes galore, electrolytes, food, rest, meds, distraction conversation when the family didn't want to dwell in the "what ifs" (Have you seen 'Only Murders in the Building'), facial massage, drying of tears, skin to skin with babe and finally resting with babe nursing.

Congratulations sweet fam!! Life with boys is chaotically magic!🤪
