The hawks are still flying, the counters still counting, so the fundraiser needs to keep raising! Please consider making a TAX-DEDUCTIBLE donation to the Talamanca Hawkwatch. This hawk watch is run by a dedicated group of volunteers who pour their blood, sweat, and tears (from staring into the deep blue sky) into ensuring an accurate estimate of the populations of migratory species passing through this migratory bottleneck. All of the funds raised will go to a new tower which will allow the counters to better view the western viewshed of the count- and get a more comprehensive count overall.

Stream Bank Restoration Training via NC Extension Next Thursday (Jan 18th) in Nash County. It will be awesome.

PLEASE sign up ASAP if you are interested - we only need a few more people to run the training! Inside training in the morning at Nash Community College, and then outdoor hands-on restoration at nearby stream in the afternoon. We will probably also find some dragonfly nymphs :)

Free lunch! $25 to attend, more if you want an official certification.

A big shout-out to Ami Thompson Consulting LLC, Dr. Melissa Sanchez & Sandra Hunt-von Arb for their incredible dedication to teaching students at Madison High School all about dragonfly migration! With the students, they caught Green Darners and glued Motus Tags on them- and now let the data pings begin as they fly south. Crossing fingers they ping the tower at Madison High School!
