Mistakes happen, and that’s okay. 🙂🎙

Just recently, I made a mistake.

I was working ahead on a project so my team members could do their individual tasks while I was away on a trip.

Turns out that I didn’t put everything in its rightful place. My team members couldn’t find what they needed to get a deliverable done in time. 🙊

It would have been easy for me to gloss over my own mistake. But I asked myself, “Will it make me a better leader if I sweep the mistakes under the rug?”

Find out how I owned and handled the mistake in the Working Conversations Podcast Episode 56: When Leaders Make Mistakes.

Believe me, this episode is so timely with so many people going back to the office and mistakes will be made. Tag the leaders around your circle to listen to this episode. 💯

I deeply believe that we pick up leadership lessons in small moments over time.

We also learn in an informal ways, especially when we are young.

We pick up our leadership knowledge and skills in subtle ways.

We learn by watching leaders around us and picking up on what works and what doesn’t.

The same is true with kids.

Today in the podcast, I distilled 4 Leadership Concepts from my fifth grade son who is running for Mayor in BizTown. 👦🙌 These new concepts might be exactly what you need in your leadership toolbox!

We can continue to learn to be better leaders our entire lives. I’m in my 50s and I’m still learning. Every day. 💯

Leadership is not just for those who manage the work of others.

And definitely not just for those who are on the C-suite level.

I am a firm believer that anyone can lead and should lead from wherever they are on the organizational chart.

Recently, I've been thinking a lot about leadership and how what's expected of leaders has changed throughout the pandemic.

I’m also thinking about how leaders have carried themselves and how their leadership has morphed and changed with the uncertainty and ambiguity in our world.

That’s why in this episode of my podcast, I talk about the leadership lessons that shouldn’t be left behind as we move into the new frontier of the post-pandemic period. These lessons will help you:

✔ Demonstrate HUMANITY and HUMILITY.
✔ Retain your WORKFORCE.
✔ Create a helping hand COMMUNITY.

Tag a leader you look up to.

Ever heard yourself saying any of these?

‼ “This is not how it is supposed to be.”

‼ “This is not how I saw myself as a leader.”

‼ “This goes counter to everything I was trained as in terms of what leadership would look like and what organizational life from the top would look like.”

I’ve heard it from everyone from senior leaders to human resource professionals. 😞

Recently, an executive coaching client of mine made me understand this phenomenon with a sharper focus. It was clear that he was grieving his conception of himself as a leader.

And in today’s podcast, I offer clear-cut strategies for understanding why we might be grieving the loss of the former workplace and what to do about it.
