This is why you don’t have to water native plants once established. And those roots act like sponges to control flooding.

Follow the bees! Please!
Minnesota could become the next Maryland.

Maryland just cleared the shelves of the deadliest pesticides and became one of the first states to tell big-box garden centers that selling nerve agents to homeowners is no longer a business model. The state completely banned the consumer retail sale of neonicotinoid pesticides, pulling these systemic toxins off shelves and out of suburban garages where they have sat next to fertilizer bags and hose nozzles for two decades. Neonics turn every treated plant into a lethal vending machine from root to bloom, killing bees that crawl across sprayed lawns, butterflies that sip contaminated nectar, and birds that eat poisoned seeds, and for years the consumer market has been the unregulated pipeline that flooded neighborhoods with ecological warfare disguised as lawn care. Maryland looked at its backyard bee populations crashing and its Chesapeake Bay watershed absorbing chemical runoff and decided that the right to a green lawn does not include the right to collapse the food web. The ban means homeowners can no longer walk into a hardware store and buy the stuff that causes colony collapse. Landscapers and farmers still have regulated access, but the weekend warrior with a spray bottle is cut off. Nurseries are shifting to biological controls. Garden centers are rethinking their spring displays. And the yards that emerge under this protection are safer by default: clover returns to lawns without neurotoxins, milkweed draws monarchs that survive the visit, and kids and pets roll on grass not soaked in invisible poison. Other states are watching because Maryland proved that the fastest way to protect pollinators is to stop letting untrained consumers buy the chemicals that kill them. Shelves clear. Bees thriving.

Celebrating 150 years of Arbor Day in Minnesota and remembering our 3-year campaign with the DNR:
“MP+G brought fresh creative services to the agency. The Daily Dose of Trees™ infographic is still very popular and has been used by other government agencies, non-profits, and organizations. Even translated into Spanish.”

Spring is when our bumble bees and pollinators need us most! Your yard can be the change!
They need:
-nectar rich flowers to replenish their body fat after hibernation
-nectar and pollen rich flowers to provide food for their young
-safe, pesticide-free habitats, and native flowers all year round that they evolved with for high protein to develop properly

Ty Fisher has a 120-acre farm in Pierce County near Nugget Lake County Park that he’s run for the last 43 years. His family has been on it for six generations.

If you ask him what he loves about the area, he’ll tell you it’s the “beautiful and unique landscape—especially the bluffs off of the great Mississippi River.”

Ty’s son and daughter plan to take over the farm when he retires.

But Ty is worried about the future of his rural community.

He’s one of the petitioners against a farm called Ridge Breeze, that wants to expand—to make that farm the largest factory farm in western Wisconsin, with 6,500 cows.

Petitioners say there are risks to private wells, the Rush River watershed, local roads, small farms, and rural quality of life.

Their petition against the Department of Natural Resource’s (DNR) permit asks that at the very least it be modified to make sure the DNR is monitoring the local water so the farm is held accountable if the state’s groundwater pollution rules are violated.

Please read. If you aren’t sure why this is such a messed up message, do a little research on the benefits of trees to our aquifers. We deserve educated government leaders. These are all our public lands. They belong to all of us. Speak up. Speak out. And vote!
